A great alternative to hotels

5 of 5
This was a great find, and is a really good alternative to hotels. Lidia and her husband met me at Ciampino airport and drove me straight to the apartment, saving a lot of hassle upon arrival. The location was very convenient. The number 51 bus, just around the corner from the apartment, takes you to the Colosseum and further into the tourist areas, and departs every 5-6 minutes during the day. The apartment is very close to the Lido tram stop, although this is on Metro Line C which only heads out of town. San Giovanni metro stop a few minutes further down the road is more useful for central Rome. The number 51 bus links with both lines A at San Giovanni and line B at Colosseum. Also 5 minutes away is the Carlo Felice tram stop on tram line 3, which links to the rest of the tram network and is particularly useful for La Sapienza university. The apartment itself is immaculate and newly refurbished. There is air conditioning in the bedroom, and this, along with the apartment being sheltered, made it perfectly comfortable throughout the whole apartment, even with 37 degree temperatures outside. The W-LAN internet is fast and unlimited and worked perfectly throughout the stay. The kitchen is well-equipped, and a really nice touch is that a lot of provisions had been left for arrival - coffee, milk, eggs, oils, pasta, bread, water, cheese etc etc - there is more than enough to feed yourself should you arrive late and also to have breakfast the next day. When you need to stock up, there is a good-sized Coop supermarket just across the road, 3 minutes walk away. There are places close by to eat (including and ice-cream parlour just a few doors away) but the kitchen and supermarket were so convenient that I didn't try and of these out. All throughout the planning and arrival Lidia's communication was both helpful and courteous. I would definitely choose this apartment if visiting Rome again.
