Port Torres is a popular holiday resort on the northwest coast of the lovely Mediterranean island of Sardinia. It is part of Italy and the main language is Italian, although English is widely spoken in Sassari Province. You may also hear a little Sardinian spoken by the locals too. There are plenty of villas, beach apartments and self-catering accommodation to suit all budgets and most are close to the sandy beach and shops. Porto Torres villas can also be rented outside the town to take advantage of the quiet Sardinian countryside.

Porto Torres was a sizeable city even in Roman times and the Roman antiquities are a major attraction, along with the beach and diving sites. Visitors will love the rich and diverse Sardinian cuisine of seafood and Italian dishes.

The most popular excursion from Porto Torres is a day trip by ferry to the island of Asinara. This island was formerly a prison, so fishing in the area was prohibited and this has resulted in it becoming one of the richest seabeds in the world – ideal for divers to explore. Corals, anemones, starfish, octopus, moray eels and many other fish can be seen in this underwater park. The whole of the island is a National Park, and along with the prolific birdlife, visitors can see the small white donkeys which are native to the island.

Perfect for our family of 4.

5 of 5
We arrived in the middle of the night due to easyJet delay and there only being one member of staff at passport control. ( Annoying!) Rosanna and her husband waited up for us and we're so kind helping us to settle in at that time! Beds were made up and towels provided as well as bottled water in the fridge. The apartment had everything we needed for a self catering holiday and was very clean. We were able to borrow a beach umbrella and a bodyboard from Rosanna which was so helpful ( thank you!) It was easy to park our hire car. We had a good deal from Budget, although counter at airport had only 1 member of staff, next door Europcar had all 5 desks open.( Another delay!!! ) The local beach was a short drive. There were beach bars etc and the water was warm. We visited Alghero which was beautiful, cobbled streets in the old town and lots of shops and restaurants. We went to several beaches which we found on TripAdvisor. Stintini beaches were also very good. This is a good base for exploring the north west of Sardinia. You need a car as this apartment is in a residential area. Rosanna also showed us her gorgeous apartment downstairs. It's newly renovated and has a beautiful outdoor space leading to a garden. If you were on holiday with friends or family hiring the whole building might be a good option? We would definitely recommend the apartment we stayed in, it was exactly as we expected and Rosanna and her husband were as wonderful as previous reviewers had described. 😀
