Make a holiday rental home or villa in Porto Rotondo, Italy your home away from home

Porto Rotondo is located around 17km from the city of Olbia, in the north-east of the beautiful Italian island of Sardinia. The town is an important tourist centre and part of the famous Costa Smeralda, an area of beautiful beaches, great restaurants and fantastic scenery. Porto Rotondo is a somewhat upmarket resort, and the home of an exclusive yacht club.

Things to do in Porto Rotondo, Italy

Porto Rotondo has a high-quality beach, though it can sometimes get busy with visitors during the height of summer though. This does not become a problem though, as a reasonably short walk or bicycle ride will take you to one of the lesser-visited bays of the north-east coast and you will be able to relax in peace.

Beachside restaurants are common in Porto Rotondo along the Costa Smeralda, and will provide you with the opportunity to sample the local cuisine without having to lose too much sunbathing time. Seafood is always top of the menu in this part of the world, and you can be sure that the fish of your choice will be some of the freshest you have ever tasted. Bars and cafes are also just minutes away on foot.

If you plan on returning home from Porto Rotondo with a few snapshots of fantastic Sardinian scenery, you can do far worse than take a journey up one of the rocky cliffs that frame the town. The elevated position will allow you to fully appreciate the spectacular mountains and crystal-clear waters of the coast, and will give you the opportunity to produce photographs that will be the envy of all of your friends.

Places to visit on holiday in Porto Rotondo, Italy

The Porto Rotondo province really does have some spectacular beaches, with some of the best of them to be found in the Costa Smeralda area. One great example is the sandy stretch at Porto Taverna (33km), which is just 45 minutes away by car and slightly off the main tourist trail. Like Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo (28km) has a luxury marina and is ideal for a bit of yacht-spotting.

Weather in Porto Rotondo, Italy

July and August are the hottest months in which to visit Porto Rotondo, with daily high temperatures regularly exceeding 30C at this time of the year. It is worth noting, however, that summer can also be quite humid in Sardinia, and if you are planning a vacation of golf or outdoor pursuits you may prefer to visit in the slightly cooler months of May, June or September.

Flights to Porto Rotondo, Italy

Porto Rotondo is 19km from Olbia-Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB). The airport can be reached in around two hours from UK destinations such as Birmingham (Ryanair) and London Gatwick (Thomas Cook Airlines), and the drive from airport to accommodation (and vice-versa) should take around half an hour on a good day.

Fantastic stay

5 of 5
My husband and I had a fantastic stay in Angela's apartment. Angela was very warm, friendly and exceptionally helpful. We arrived late in the evening after a 2-h flight delay. Angela picked us up from the airport and showed us the way to the flat. She also provided drinking water, fresh fruits and a bottle of wine in the flat which was very kind of her and really helpful as after travelling all day we did't have any energy to venture out to a nearby (20 min drive) supermarket. The flat was clean and full of everything you could possibly need on your vacation. We easily cooked a few 3-course meals there. There are also beach chairs and parasols available in the flat. But the main wow factor of the apartment is THE VIEW. Nothing beats the 180 degrees panoramic view this flat can boast. I wish I could attach some pictures to share. This is a sunrise side, so I urge you to ditch your sleep and get up to watch at least one mind-blowing sunrise on your very own terrace. There is also a small cove 5 min walk from the flat. You'll have to walk down and then climb back up a steep hill (there are steps), but anyone reasonably fit can do that. Out of season we had the cove just for ourselves at all times. I'd advise to bring divers boots with you for this reason. A long sandy beach is 5 min drive from the apartment. We found restaurants in nearby Olbia to be better and less touristy than in more affluent Porto Rotondo. You don't need to pay a premium for a stunning view when you have the one of your own that can hardly be rivaled by anything else. From the flat we explored surrounding Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo (way overpriced for no reason whatsoever), don't discount an airport town of Olbia (it has a great wine bar In Vino Veritas and a few genuine restaurants), in port of Palau we rented a boat to explore La Maddalena archipelago, we also drove for 2 hours to see an incredibly beautiful town of Bosa and visited Nuraghe Santu Antine (an hour drive). We can definitely recommend this place.
