Make a holiday rental home or villa in Pontassieve, Italy your home away from home

Staying in a Pontassieve holiday villa is a good alternative to staying in Florence, as it will give you close and easy access to the famous city, but a relaxed and traditional Tuscan base to return to after a busy day of sightseeing. Pontassieve is also a worthy destination in its own right, with a bevy of historical attractions and top amenities – perfect for a self-catering vacation in the Val di Sieve.

Things to do in Pontassieve, Italy

The Val di Sieve is rural Tuscany at its best – roaming green landscapes, traditional attractions and unspoilt serenity. Pontassieve is a popular choice of base for those on a walking and hiking holiday, with a number of nature trails starting in and around the town.

The centre of the town is a fine example of a lovingly preserved medieval centre, and has a number of old buildings that can be visited by the general public. The impressive Castle di San Michele is the jewel in Pontassieve's crown, whilst the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II and the Porta Filicaia can also help fill a day of sightseeing.

Amenities are important for self-caterers, and Pontassieve delivers them in spades. Despite being fairly small in size, the town centre is home to a respectful number of shops, bars, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants, allowing you to either stock up for the week or dine out in style.

If you wish to visit Pontassieve during a festival period, you can do far worse than book your holiday rental accommodation in May – the time of the Toscanello d'oro, which celebrates local food and wine. Expect plenty of hearty Tuscan dishes if you visit during this time.

Places to visit on holiday in Pontassieve, Italy

The famous city of Florence is just 18km away, and can be reached in under half an hour by car or by public transport. Pontassieve has a railway station, but opting to hire a car will provide you with far more flexibility when it comes to exploring the Val di Sieve region, with Dicomano (18km) another destination more than worthy of your attentions. The most famous site in Dicomano is the 12th century Pieve di Santa Maria.

Weather in Pontassieve, Italy

Although Tuscany is often regarded as a spring and summer destination, a holiday in Pontassieve can be enjoyed at any time of the year. Temperatures remain mild even in the depths of winter, and you can still expect clear skies and daily sunshine during this season.

Flights to Pontassieve, Italy

Peretola Airport (FLR), which is located close to the city of Florence, is the closest airport to Pontassieve, being just 19km away. Flights to this airport from the UK are limited, however, so you may need to also look at flying to Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport (PSA), 129km away.

Perfect, Perfect, Perfect!

Grazie ancora signor Giovanni e, sicuramente, a presto.

Absolutely Brilliant!!!

Our accommodation was called Alba, which is a fully furnished flat, for a week, during the first week of October 2016. Fully heated with Air Conditioning (if required). Starting in the bedroom-at the back/side of the flat. . There was a large wardrobe, with lots of hanging space, double bed, and radiators, and additional bedding/pillows if required. The window at the end of the bed overlooked the vineyard, but the view was hampered by the bricks... not a problem. Fully fitted bathroom, with bath, shower, sink and toilet. Then up a step into the lounge/kitchen, which has been furnished with TV, Settee, Bookcase, Fridge/freezer, Sink, Oven and Wi-fi. There is a patio outside, with a table and chairs and parasol is available. There are fresh herbs in the garden, with olive trees. A washing machine is available, along with an iron and ironing board. We could not have asked for better hosts - Jane & Giampero know the area . There is a booklet/guide to the accommodation which also recommends various restaurants....for whatever type of food you fancy. We walked round Pontassieve / Pelago which was most enjoyable. As we were on a driving holiday we had a couple of days when we went to Pisa and Florence by train. We drove to the station parked the car and then caught the train. It was fairly easy and cheap to buy tickets. (The one drawback, is that the flat is quite a way out of town, so we could not walk into town have a meal and then walk back.) The Alba was very clean and well maintained. Yes, I would go back and would gladly recommend it to a friend. ************Excellent We were late arriving so Jane emailed us a shopping list, which we sent back with our requirements. Our shopping was waiting for us when we arrived.

Absolutely beautiful place and Jane is an outstanding host !

I cannot recommend this place more ! Firstly we had a very disastrous start to our holiday, the hire car company didn't take debit cardswhen we went to pick up the car, we were devastated as we knew we needed this car to get to the villa. So there we were me and my girlfriend at 10 o'clock at night stranded after a days travel, I rang Jane the host not expected much more than "I'm sorry to hear but ...." That didn't happen, Jane was absolutely lovely on the phone and emailed us with directions from the airport to the centre of Florence, where we would catch a train and meet her at the Pontassieve station. Bearing in mind this was very late at night I cannot overstate how Jane basically saved our holiday. After all of drama and we got to the villa it was beautiful, the pictures don't do it justice. There was a helpful guide in our room with suggestions of restaurants and places to visit nearby. The wine tasting at the Castle just above the villa was a highlight of the trip, a great location and was very welcoming of a complete wine novice such as myself. To sum up the hosts are lovely, the location is brilliant, a variety of things to do close-by and remember to correctly book when getting a hire car! Tom and Lola
