Make a holiday rental villa or accommodation in Pisa, Italy your home away from home

Pisa is an extraordinary ancient city, inundated with outstanding historical monuments and surrounded by outstanding 12th Century defensive walls. However, this Italian city of Tuscany is mainly known for one thing; the implausible leaning Tower of Pisa.

Things to do on holiday in Pisa, Italy

Sightseeing is a huge draw, which keeps the Pisa holiday rentals in keen business. The leaning Tower of Pisa is not the only attraction, and nor is it the only leaning building in Pisa. The Baptistery and a number of bell towers (called the ‘other leaning towers of Pisa by locals) around the city are also on a clear slant, also due to the subsidence of the underlying soil. Walking tours of Pisa should take in the botanical gardens of Pisa, founded in 1540.

Taking a holiday rental villa in Pisa during June places you at the heart of the Festa di San Ranieri, which begins at the Ponte di Mezzo. Over 70,000 candles are placed around the city, which gives it a magical atmosphere and even more stunningly attractive.

The shopping in Pisa is much celebrated, with local goods including leather, jewellery, and wine being at the top of many visitors’ lists. As well as many little boutiques, Pisa has a rich tradition of flamboyant markets, where many of the cities products can be found at discounted prices. The hospitable welcome is truly evident in the cafes and restaurants of Pisa, which make excellent places to sit and recuperate after a hard day of sightseeing.

Aside from the rich sightseeing possibilities afforded by taking an apartment in Pisa, there are also a range of sport and leisure activities to enjoy. Golf, horse riding and parachuting have taken of in and around Pisa, and there are several magnificent hiking trails to choose from. The Parco Naturale di Migliarino is located just outside the city and offers some awe-inspiring scenery and a great place to relax and walk.

Florence is less than an hour from any of the holiday accommodation in Pisa. Nowhere in the world is there such a collection of artistic and cultural attractions, and the sublime atmosphere easily lets you forget the crowds around some of the more popular masterpieces.

Just outside Pisa is Palaia, whose long history has produced a number of historic monuments which should certainly not be missed from a Pisa villa. San Miniato, which sits strategically between three valleys, also has a magnificent array of medieval landmarks, the pick of which are the dramatic Tower of Frederick and the imposing Duomo or cathedral.

Volterra is of massive architectural interest, built around two castles and an abundance of Etruscan remains.

Weather in Pisa, Italy

Pisa does have four distinct seasons. Summer, when average temperatures reach 27°C is the busiest time in Pisa, but spring and autumn are still remarkably pleasant, and the crowds have thinned dramatically.

We arrived after 4 busy days in Florence (only 1-1.5 hour drive away) and were given a warm welcome by Elisabeth & Mathieu. The villa was immaculate - very clean, with all the amenities we could have wanted, a real home from home. The shared infinity pool was beautiful and a very welcome relief from the hot July weather. The villa is situated along an undulating track, which did seem longer than we thought, but didn't put us off driving to nearby Ghizzano for bread most mornings. Peccioli - about 20 mins drive from the villa has a new Coop that allowed us to buy the supplies we needed. Can't fault the property at all, the location is great for visiting many towns with lovely tavernas (although some via pretty rough tracks rather than fully tarred roads). The area has lots to see, but if a relaxing holiday by the pool is all you want in stunning surroundings, then this is the place for you. Thanks for our holiday it really was a Tuscan Dream.

Just back after spending a wonderful time at La Lucertola. As I drive all year round, we decided not to hire a car for the whole trip as it was our two daughters ( 16 and 12 ) first trip to Tuscany and we weren't going to venture too far. A couple of days hire to stock up was worthwhile. Our day trips to Lucca and a day to Pisa by bus were more than enough for a first visit. Luisa and Colin had kindly done an initial shop and the Prosecco and Peroni were an added surprise ! Ciapino's in nearby Molina di Quosa was great for some lovely local dishes.....great wee deli. The hospitality and friendliness of the hosts was superb...wee things like this can make a holiday. Always there if needed but never intrusive. The location is incredible. The view from the balcony, looking down on the countryside with Pisa in the distance was a special memory for me. Every morning had the same effect. Stunning. Days at the pool...making pizzas in the wood-fired oven....picking herbs and fruit from the surrounding trees for various recipes...lovely ! The American family from Baltimore who were in the next farmhouse were so nice....Hi, guys, loved your company ! For a base to discover Tuscany, it is great. Thanks Colin, Luisa and Max....we will be back. Bob, Tracey, Amy and Hannah.

Everything is just perfect. The house has a lovely homely feel and is spotlessly clean. The saltwater pool is equally pristine and the views from it are to die for! We asked Vicky to prepare a simple meal for us on arrival and we were welcomed to the most amazing spread of homemade dishes and salads of their homegrown vegetables. We also thoroughly enjoyed their olive oil & wine. Vicky was also kind enough to do a shop for us, so that we awoke to a lovely breakfast the following morning. Lovely extra touches were the coffee pods, washing powder, dishwasher tablets and bathroom toiletries. Highlights of our stay (two families with four kids aged 6-8). Swimming in the pool; collecting vegetables from the garden; watching the sun set over the valley and mountains beyond with a glass of local wine; cooking on the fabulous outdoor grill and eating alfresco for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I could go on and on, but suffice to say this place is heaven and we can't wait to return. Thank you Vicky. From The Mathers & The Maguires
