Make a holiday rental villa or accommodation in Pisa, Italy your home away from home

Pisa is an extraordinary ancient city, inundated with outstanding historical monuments and surrounded by outstanding 12th Century defensive walls. However, this Italian city of Tuscany is mainly known for one thing; the implausible leaning Tower of Pisa.

Things to do on holiday in Pisa, Italy

Sightseeing is a huge draw, which keeps the Pisa holiday rentals in keen business. The leaning Tower of Pisa is not the only attraction, and nor is it the only leaning building in Pisa. The Baptistery and a number of bell towers (called the ‘other leaning towers of Pisa by locals) around the city are also on a clear slant, also due to the subsidence of the underlying soil. Walking tours of Pisa should take in the botanical gardens of Pisa, founded in 1540.

Taking a holiday rental villa in Pisa during June places you at the heart of the Festa di San Ranieri, which begins at the Ponte di Mezzo. Over 70,000 candles are placed around the city, which gives it a magical atmosphere and even more stunningly attractive.

The shopping in Pisa is much celebrated, with local goods including leather, jewellery, and wine being at the top of many visitors’ lists. As well as many little boutiques, Pisa has a rich tradition of flamboyant markets, where many of the cities products can be found at discounted prices. The hospitable welcome is truly evident in the cafes and restaurants of Pisa, which make excellent places to sit and recuperate after a hard day of sightseeing.

Aside from the rich sightseeing possibilities afforded by taking an apartment in Pisa, there are also a range of sport and leisure activities to enjoy. Golf, horse riding and parachuting have taken of in and around Pisa, and there are several magnificent hiking trails to choose from. The Parco Naturale di Migliarino is located just outside the city and offers some awe-inspiring scenery and a great place to relax and walk.

Places to holiday in Pisa, Italy

Lucca is one of Italy’s best medieval cities, with an amazing array of perfectly preserved towers, palazzo, churches and defensive walls. Lucca also offers beautiful countryside, fine beaches and exuberant nightlife, not to mention the excellent gastronomy.

Florence is less than an hour from any of the holiday accommodation in Pisa. Nowhere in the world is there such a collection of artistic and cultural attractions, and the sublime atmosphere easily lets you forget the crowds around some of the more popular masterpieces.

Just outside Pisa is Palaia, whose long history has produced a number of historic monuments which should certainly not be missed from a Pisa villa. San Miniato, which sits strategically between three valleys, also has a magnificent array of medieval landmarks, the pick of which are the dramatic Tower of Frederick and the imposing Duomo or cathedral.

Volterra is of massive architectural interest, built around two castles and an abundance of Etruscan remains.

Weather in Pisa, Italy

Pisa does have four distinct seasons. Summer, when average temperatures reach 27°C is the busiest time in Pisa, but spring and autumn are still remarkably pleasant, and the crowds have thinned dramatically.

Travel to Pisa, Italy

The Galileo Galilei International Airport (PSA) is very close to the city centre, and there is no shortage of bus, taxi and train transfers available to get to your holiday accommodation in Pisa. easyJethave decided Pisa International airport is going to be one of their main routes, and therefore there are some surprisingly cheap flights to Pisa available, which greatly reduces the cost of a family holiday to Pisa.

Peaceful Tuscan Retreat

5 of 5
My husband, younger don and I stayed at Miria and Adriano's beautiful farmhouse during my son's October school holiday. The farmhouse is as beautiful as the pictures show. It is roomy, comfortable and individually decorated. Chianni is a super village with 3 really good restaurants within walking distance. There are also a couple of bars, ATMs and mini markets. The Saturday market offers an excellent choice of fruit and vegetables. The farmhouse is a great base to tour Tuscany. We visited Volterra, Lajtico, San Giminjano, Florence, Lucca, Livorno and Pisa. Miria and Adriano gave us a very warm welcome, were accommodating in topping up the wifi and took great care to ensure we made the most of our visit. It farmhouse is at the bottom of a very steep stones path which is pitch dark in the evening so flat shoes and a torch are required! We would have no hesitation in recommending the farmhouse and Chianni in general. Grazie tanto, speriamo di essere di nuovo. Judith, Alan and Jamie

Charming accommodation in the Tuscan countryside

5 of 5
My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay in this very well equipped apartment in the village of Chianni. We were made to feel totally at home by the Roberta and her father who apart from both being a source of valuable local information, treated us to some of their local chianti which was much appreciated. The village has a few interesting shopping experiences and a local bar where you can get your fix of espresso or vino any time of day. Chianni is well located for visiting the main attractions of the area namely Firenze (Florence), Pisa, Sienna, but we much preferred the smaller towns of San Gimignano, Certaldo, Volterra to name a few. We are keen amateur photographers and this area presents many opportunities at virtually every turn of the road. There is a particularly good sunrise vista on the opposite side of the road from the apartment looking across the rolling hills of the valley below. A couple of tips:- 1. When visiting Florence by car consider parking at Scandicci and taking the tram in to the city. Parking is free in the area of the tram station and a return ticket in to the city is 2.40Euro. This is much cheaper than the city car parks (if you can get in to one!). The tram ride takes about 10 minutes and runs very frequently. 2. At the apartment the TV's give limited access to english channels. I have for some time now used an Android app 'FilmOn Live TV' that delivers world wide TV channels to your phone. The addition of a HDMI cable in to the TV (the one in the kitchen) and bingo... It does of course rely on a reasonable wifi connection, the one at the apartment is excellent. Altogether a great holiday experience, we particularly liked the apples complete with their 'famille' in the centres, Roberta will know what I mean. Thanks again, we may well see you again in the future.
