Flowers, butterflies, mountain walks and swims

We had a lovely smiling welcome from Carla and Fabio and family, and really enjoyed our stay at Maso Danola. The apartment is on the ground and first floor and has been very tastefully furnished and decorated in an individual way that is much more than just the standard approach. There is no washing machine, but otherwise it is well equipped; the Rizzoli wood stove was great and there was plenty of firewood. The garden is charming and spacious, and would suit children well. The whole setting is beautiful with lovely views. Whether it is watching the moon come up over the nearby mountains, admiring a golden eagle soar and glide, or simply soaking in the complete peace and quiet, we were in a world apart. From the house there are numerous walks (although annoyingly a few signs are missing) through the woodlands and meadows. Walking up to Paso de Broccon from the house you go on a wonderful old track with cliffs and mountains, looking down through the tree canopy into gorges and gazing up at huge peaks; at Broccon the Trodo de Fiori path is amazing for its wild flowers, has tremendous panoramic views of the Dolomites, and a generous slice of World War I history. There are lakes to swim in such as at Levico Terme - 40 minutes drive - where there are lakeside cafes and facilities. But you might want to bear in mind that the Castello Tesino area itself is a rural back-water somewhat removed from the main tourist attractions of northern Italy such as Venice, Cortina and Lake Garda - Garda was about 2 hours drive via Trent. So for us Maso Danola was ideal for switching off the phone and just enjoying the beauty around.

Lovely, large, central

Lovely large apartment in centre of Moena. The apartment is the top 2 floors of the house, above the shop on the ground floor and the family apartment on the first floor. Good sized bedrooms, most with balconies, and two very adequate bathrooms. When we arrived the oven wasn't working but the owner was very responsive and the repair was made while we were there. The only thing which could better is to have duvets for the beds, rather than blankets. The owners don't speak much English but we managed to communicate well enough. Car parking for 2 cars in nearby garage - best to back in, and watch for traffic coming down the street as you emerge from garage! Being in centre of town was good - very convenient for shopping and cafes - though when special events happen they close some streets which makes it harder to get back to your property. Moena is also a very good central place for accessing the various ski areas in the surrounding valleys.
