Pietrasanta is a delightful town on the coast of northern Tuscany, Italy. Located in the province of Lucca, Pietrasanta straddles the foothills of the Apuan Alps, and is a town of Roman origin. The town is famous for its marble studios, bronze work and excellent restaurants.

Located just a short distance from the beach, this historic town presents visitors with a range of activities, be it sunbathing, exploring the town, or hiking in the hills. Pietrasanta has a great range of luxury villas, town apartments and converted farmhouses for tourists to choose from for their self catering holiday.

Things to do in Pietrasanta, Italy

Some of the main sights in Pietrasanta include the impressive Cathedral of St. Martin, the Romanesque-style Church of St. Augustine, and the Gothic Civil Tower. The whole city should be explored over a good period of time, as it is home to some fabulous 16th Century architecture.

An essential part of any visit to Pietrasanta is a trip to the seaside marina. The sea, beach, pinewoods and mountains all blend in to a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere that stretches for several kilometres. The beach itself is regarded as one of the best in the Lucca province, being golden, sandy, and extremely wide – reaching 200 meters in some places, meaning even on busy days the sandy stretch rarely feels crowded.

If you would rather do something more active than laze on the beach, then the nearby foothills of the Apuan Alps are great for climbing, hiking and trekking, and offer some great views as you get higher up.

Pietrasanta is a town of just 25,000 people, and as a result does not offer a hectic nightlife. However, for such a small area, the restaurants are regarded as some of the best in the region – including the renowned Albergo Pietrasanta on Via Garibaldi.

Great Location

We returned again this year to Pietrasanta to this lovely apartment. The apartment is located on one of the quieter streets in Pietrasanta but close enough to walk to everything. We wake every morning to the sound of church bells. Wonderful places to eat and shop nearby.

A lovely, bright apartment in a residential area, short distance from the sea.

We rented Iris apartment for 2 in September. A first floor bright and airy large apartment in a quiet residential area located on the edge of Lido di Camiaore. Secure with a private parking space, the apartment is about 15 minutes walk to the seafront. A very large supermarket is within 3 minute drive .The apartment has a large terrace with lounge and bedroom access and lovely views towards the mountains. There is a kitchenette which includes an induction hob, (no oven) dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Plenty of storage space in bedroom. Everything we needed for our holiday. Our days out included visits to Cinque Terre, Portofino, La Spezia, Lucca, Carrara and Pisa. Walk along the seafront or beach to watch sunset from the pier or take bus/bike/car in the other direction to lovely Marina di Pietrasanta. .The apartment is accessed via a spiral staircase so may not be suitable for some people. The owner who spoke good English, made us feel very welcome and would answer any queries and suggested places to visit. A lovely place for a relaxing holiday.
