Make a holiday rental home or villa in Perinaldo, Italy your home away from home

Perinaldo is a comune of the Imperia province in south-western Italy, and a relatively popular holiday rental destination despite its tiny size. Perhaps best known as the birthplace of 17th century astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini, Perinaldo is a peaceful hamlet that can act as a both a secluded countryside hideaway and a conveniently located base for visiting the Ligurian coast and the exclusive holiday resorts just over the border in France.

Things to do in Perinaldo, Italy

Perinaldo is one of the oldest villages in the Liguria region, and has three main sights of historical interest. These are the 15th century parish Church of San Nicola da Bari, the 17th century Sanctuary of the Visitation and the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, which was built around the end of the 16th century.

The centre of the village is consists of a number of carugi – narrow, winding streets that are so typical of the area. Around the streets you will find amenities that are more than suitable for a self-catering holiday, and everything is nicely confined within the ancient city walls. Food and wine is an important part of life in this part of Italy, and Perinaldo has a good selection of restaurants in which you can sample the local cuisine.

Perinaldo is situated at an altitude of nearly 600 metres above sea level, resulting in panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Maritime Alps to the north. High-quality photo opportunities can be found in abundance around the village, with nothing but olive groves, hills and unspoilt landscapes and seascapes to be enjoyed for miles around. The sea is just a short car journey away, and the extremely mild climate means that it is possible to swim in the warm waters in almost any month of the year.

Places to visit on holiday in Perinaldo, Italy

18km to the south, Seborga is one of the most interesting and unique destinations that you could possible visit when staying in Perinaldo. The comune has long proclaimed itself as a principality, and has its own flag, own customs and even its own currency. A visit to Seborga is a must, and upon leaving you can continue 10km further south to the attractive seaside town of Bordighera and enjoy an evening meal in one of its excellent restaurants.

Weather in Perinaldo, Italy

With the region enjoying a Mediterranean climate, June, July and August are the hottest months in which to visit Perinaldo. This does not mean, however, that these are the only months in which a holiday can be enjoyed here – on the contrary. Perinaldo has a remarkably mild climate that means even March and April are extremely pleasant for a holiday in the town.

Flights to Perinaldo, Italy

Perinaldo is just an hour away from Nice Cote d’Azur Airport, but if you would rather travel to and stay within the Italian borders your best bet is to fly from to Genoa Airport (GOA), which is 111km east along the coast. This airport is also sometimes listed on websites as ‘Cristiforo Colombo Airport’, and receives UK flights from Ryanair and British Airways.

Basic with great views.

5 of 5
Owners were lovely although we didn’t speak Italian and they didn’t speak English. We got lost and arrived very late but they were understanding. Appartment is basic as the photos show but had everything needed (apart from a sharp knife). Reasonably comfortable bed, shower worked well. Fantastic views from the balcony but not from kitchen onto street. Quiet apartment with very little traffic going past. Lovely old hilltop village as in photos but you need to be able to walk up uneven paths. Only one bar and small shop, latter not open on Sundays but bar sold milk and few cakes. One restaurant which wasn’t open in June when we went. Nice drives and scenic views. Couldn’t get water to work in washing machine.

Just as good the second time around

5 of 5
Our second stay at this delightful apartment, spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Get the coffee on in the morning for breakfast and choose which balcony you're going to have it on. Close to restaurants, a 24hour supermarket and the delightful covered market full of fresh local produce. Jean Marc is an excellent host
