Given its magnificent slopes, the Ortler Region is a natural skiing resort. Those into cross country skiing will be delighted to participate in the ski tour of the Stelvio National Park which happens to be one of the largest protected areas in Europe. In summer this same park provides an unforgettable hiking experience as well as an exciting chance to bike through the diverse flora and fauna. Among the many plant species there are pines, larches and dwarf shrubs. Nature lovers will particularly be intrigued by the presence of the rare Leafless, twinflower, Inntaler Primrose and rock-saxifrage species. The trails are quite manageable and visitors can share the fun of cycling around the greenery with their entire family. Affordable rental bikes are available along the Adige/Etsch cycling route. Taking a guided tour of this park is advisable as the guide will provide plenty of interesting information about the various natural features there. The view of Mount Ortler is simply stunning, enchanting even and more than justifies the hiking or cycling exertions.

The Museum for the Ortler Region, as the name suggests, has plenty to offer those interested in learning more of the culture and history of this locale. The Stelvio National Park contains two places visitors can go to in order to further add to the knowledge obtained from the museum: the ?naturatrafoi?, situated in the heart of the park provides the geological background of the Ortler mountain range. The Culturamartell in the Martell Valley contains exhibits of culturally significant items and details the lives of past inhabitants of the area.

Weather in Ortler Region, Italy

The higher you go, the cooler it becomes, goes the adage, and at over 2,000 metres above sea level, visitors can expect chilly weather in Ortler. Temperatures colder than -10°C are not uncommon here during the winter months. Summer does have warm days, with a number of them enjoying temperatures above 20°C.

Travel to Ortler Region, Italy

Tourists headed to this part of Italy have a choice between two international airports both based in Rome; Fiumicino and Ciampino. The former is the more popular and serves more airlines but both serve popular international carriers including KLM, Air France and Alitalia.
