The province of Oristano, Sardinia, (also known as the Sardegna Region) is a very distinct, very natural region consisting of spectacular coastal scenery, huge saltwater lagoons, ancient historical monuments and some of the most delicious rustic cuisine you can find. Oristano is largely a rural region, blessed with over 100km of rugged, windswept coastline, soaring mountains and stunning lagoons. As a result, the atmosphere and way of life is relaxed and peaceful, the cuisine fresh and hearty and the wildlife varied and rich. There are endless walking and hiking opportunities from self catering Oristano accommodation, and bird lovers will be delighted by the range of species living in abundance in the area including the rose flamingo, peregrine and griffon. However, it is the mountainous region of Montiferru in the North West which really attracts walkers and hikers to self catering holiday rental properties in Oristano.

Throughout the landscape of Oristano Province are remarkable archaeological discoveries, ancient cities and massive medieval structures to investigate. Walking the cobbled streets of the ancient city of Aristanis is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon, from walking around the ancient defensive walls to climbing the Tower of St Christopher or exploring the huge ceiling of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta. If you would like to know more about the long and turbulent history of Oristano, the Antiquarium Arborense Museum is a magnificent place to start, displaying artefacts from throughout the ages. You can also take tours of the intensely highly skilled Oristano workshops, watching traditional craftsmen using their incredible skill with ceramics and jewellery.

If you can, renting an Oristano villa, apartment or cottage during Carnival. The Carnival is a time of joyous celebration, with the medieval style Sartiglia event delighting visitors and locals with horse racing, medieval feasts and period costumes. Throughout the summer are a host of events celebrating wine, meat, traditional dance and poetry, so there should always be something to entertain you during your stay in Oristano accommodation.

Great position, everything you need

Review given by Sandrine on another site;- We had the chance to stay a week in the Giulia apartment! At the top location facing the sea you go in bikini of the house a small swim at any time of the day and hop back to the apartment a small outdoor shower and you refine your tan on the terrace! A luxury ! The apartment is very clean and very functional, central location to discover the west coast of Sardinia and the residence is very quiet. I recommend ! Plus a capsule coffee machine.

A gem of a house and stunning garden equipped with everything you could need. We're a family of five with children aged 6, 8 and 11. We all loved it and felt instantly at home. Lots of shade and cosy corners all around the house and the outdoor shower is a dream. Pet tortoise also a big hit. Wonderful location with sea views in front and mountains behind. 5 min walk to local beach and our favourite ice cream restaurant Asterix. Great base for exploring stunning local area. So many wonderful quiet beaches. Super snorkelling. Good, safe roads. Large supermarkets about 10 mins drive away otherwise local shops have surprisingly good stock. Recommend day trip to Bosa. This was our first visit to Sardinia and we wanted a rural location away from tourists. This is exactly what we found so were very happy. Maria is a delightful host. Very very helpful and interested. Could have stayed here for a very long time!
