Make a holiday rental home or villa in Oria, Italy your home away from home

Oria is a stunning medieval village in the Puglia Province of southern Italy. The countryside is awash with traditional trulli in which to stay if you would like the authentic Puglian experience, but there are a whole host of luxury Oria villas too if you would prefer to bask in space during your holiday in the sun. The locals are fantastically welcoming, and if you are looking to eat and drink well during your holiday, you have certainly come to the right place.

Things to do in Oria, Italy

Oria is a thriving town all year round, especially in the historic centre, which is filled with beautifully understated monuments from throughout the ages. The beautifully domed cathedral and the impressive medieval castle dominate most sightseeing guides to Oria, but the 10th century Jewish quarter also holds a great many treasures worth exploring, especially the Synagogue. The region is carpeted in vineyards and wineries too, which provide both an excellent accompaniment to local cuisine and fascinating vineyard tours and wine tasting sessions to interested tourists.

Oria is home to one of the most bizarre tournaments in Italy. The Tournament of the Districts (Torneo dei Rioni) was first held in 1225, and is still re-enacted today. Preceded by a 400 strong costumed procession and contested with remarkable support, this really is a fantastic time to be staying in Oria accommodation. The whole city is decorated with banners, and the lavish opening ceremony which starts the competition is great fun to watch. So, if you are looking to watch a town compete in competitions as varied as weight pulling to horse battles, then a holiday rental in Oria during August is the perfect solution!

The glorious sandy beaches of the Ionian Sea are just 20 minutes drive from a holiday rental villa in Oria. The beaches are absolutely glorious, lined with fine, golden sand and lapped by the warm, crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea. There are many water sports available along the Ionian coast, and whether you are wishing to go sailing, windsurfing, swimming, deep sea fishing or scuba diving, you will be well catered for from a self catering Oria apartment, villa or trulli.

this is a very beautiful house with lovely garden and pool.

5 of 5
The house is a very pretty converted trullo standing in beautiful green grounds in olive groves. It is very cool and peaceful inside. The gardens are large With many fruit trees, figs, plums, olives, and citrus fruits. The pool area is lovely with lots of different little areas in which to sit. It really is a Idyllic. There is an outdoor garden kitchen with a pizza oven which is lots of fun to use. House is very clean, fresh and well equipped and there are mosquito gauzes on the windows, which are useful. There are lots of interesting towns to visit nearby, including Ostuni and Ceglie massapica. SAN Michele Salentino is pleasant at night with its sociable piazza. We had a very restful holiday at the house and we were sorry to leave.

Stunning trulli - idyllic location

5 of 5
Nico our host was wonderful. Greeted with heavenly traditional pastries - so welcome after a long journey across Italy and a bowl of figs and plums too. We were extremely touched at how thoughtful our host was. The trulli was so nicely put together and well equipped. The location and grounds were so peaceful and relaxing, waking to the sound of crickets. Very natural and wonderful to watch the surrounding nature. Although fairly isolated, we felt secure within our own little world for the week we were there and would have loved to stay longer. We would definitely love to return. The area is lovely with lots to see and do. The beach was beautiful and we travelled to Lecce, a beautiful town, Brindisi, which we loved and stumbled upon Trani, which although a two hour drive away was a joy to discover. We had a lovely day wandering around the harbour area and exploring the old castle (once a prison). We also timed it right to enjoy a local wedding in the middle of a lush park/play area - perfect for families. I had come to see Alberobello, as it looks stunning from pictures I had seen and the town didn't disappoint. Lovely to absorb in the history of the trullo and had the opportunity to walk around many of these lovely buildings still inhabited. We loved the area in general - very relaxed and had an authentic Italian feel everywhere we went. It was so easy to drive everywhere too. Of course the towns were busy but the roads in general were free-flowing. We had come from a visit to Sorrento and Positano and whilst we enjoyed our stay there, were so happy to find trulli le ginestre, far less touristy and unspoilt and travelling around was easier. From the moment we arrived, our agent could not have been more helpful, pointing out many places of interest and places to visit, along with restaurants, beaches, everything we could need. The communication was great from the start and throughout our stay. We only wish we could have spoken Italian so that we could have expressed our true appreciation to our host. We have been raving about this holiday (one of my personal favourites) since we arrived at the destination and will definitely recommend to others. I spent many hours looking for my perfect trulli prior to booking this and it was worth it - this, for us was indeed perfect. Hopefully we will return one day! Jen and Jez, Kent
