Make a holiday rental home or villa in Nuoro, Sardinia your home away from home

Nuoro is the cultural centre of Sardinia, home to numerous historical monuments and cultural events throughout the calendar. Located in the mountainous heart of Sardinia, a holiday rental property in Nuoro is the perfect base for your exploration if you are looking for a taste of real Sardinia. The province runs from coast to coast, encompassing areas of plains, plateaux and the island’s highest mountains, as well as prehistoric monuments of great national importance.

Things to do on holiday in Nuoro, Sardinia

There are a surprising number of attractions to visit within the town boundaries. The Ethnographic Museum is a major attraction, depicting the life and struggles of Sardinian communities throughout the ages, with displays of jewels, tools, crafts and clothing. Nuoro is host to the Sagra del Redentore in August, which is a really traditional religious festival where the real Sardinia culture is impossible to ignore. The bright clothing and frequent cultural festivals really do give a vivid insight into the Sardinian way of life from years gone by, although many will argue the culture is as strong today as it ever has been, which is why holiday rental accommodation in Nuoro is such a tempting prospect.

Nuoro is a great base for walking holidays to Sardinia. A local favourite is the walk from the town centre to the summit of Monte Ortobene, a vertical trip of almost a kilometre. From the statue of Jesus which marks the top, the views over the town and across the island and the sea are unbeatable. However, there are no limits to the number of sensational walks through the remote wilderness of Nuoro Province. There are some amazing geological formations throughout the highlands of Sardinia, including red granite, marble and limestone landscapes adorned with traces of the past, from as far back as the Neolithic ages.

During the summer months, the many miles of untouched, unspoilt beaches are a huge attraction to international visitors. There are a whole range of fantastically romantic little cove beaches along the Nuoro coast, where you can find a little cove to yourself, shared only with the rare bird species which call Nuoro home.

Cala Liberotto is wonderfully scenic, with thick pine forests reaching right down to the seafront, producing a fantastic backdrop to the white sand beaches.

Orosei is the chief town of Nuoro’s most historically important region, Baronia. The old streets of Orosei are filled with limestone architecture, of particular note are the two churches, both impossibly picturesque. The town is not only a historical gem, but also a beach town.

Very comfortable apartment on outskirts of Budoni

4 of 5
2 bedroom villa was spacious and very clean. Air-conditioning was a must during a very hot August. Kitchen was well-equipped although the oven was only a hob, not an actual oven. Pool is opposite our apartment (no 4) and was open 8 until 8. Location is around 1 km outside of Budoni town although it is closer to the Beach. Pasquale and his family were very friendly and easy to get hold.

Lovely house in a great location with sea view

4 of 5
The house was very clean on arrival, and the host was welcoming. The outside has an expansive terrace with two covered shaded areas for dining/relaxing. The garden is beautiful and well kept. There are two outside showers with hot water that we preferred to use rather than the inside bathroom shower. The house enjoys a lovely view of the sea and the island of Tavolara. Just beyond the garden there is a hotel car park which spoils the view a little, but that should diminish as the shrubs around the edge of the garden mature and become taller. Easy walk into the lovely town of San Teodora with many bars and restaurants to choose from, plus supermarkets. Easy access to the beach. Each room had it's own air conditioning controls which worked very well. The kitchen was reasonably equipped, although there were no wine glasses just short tumblers. The only problem that we had with the house was that the main bathroom sink didn't drain very well, but this is a fairly common problem. Overall, we loved the house and the location, and would not hesitate to return and can recommend to others.
