Make a holiday rental home or villa in Nuoro, Sardinia your home away from home

Nuoro is the cultural centre of Sardinia, home to numerous historical monuments and cultural events throughout the calendar. Located in the mountainous heart of Sardinia, a holiday rental property in Nuoro is the perfect base for your exploration if you are looking for a taste of real Sardinia. The province runs from coast to coast, encompassing areas of plains, plateaux and the island’s highest mountains, as well as prehistoric monuments of great national importance.

Things to do on holiday in Nuoro, Sardinia

There are a surprising number of attractions to visit within the town boundaries. The Ethnographic Museum is a major attraction, depicting the life and struggles of Sardinian communities throughout the ages, with displays of jewels, tools, crafts and clothing. Nuoro is host to the Sagra del Redentore in August, which is a really traditional religious festival where the real Sardinia culture is impossible to ignore. The bright clothing and frequent cultural festivals really do give a vivid insight into the Sardinian way of life from years gone by, although many will argue the culture is as strong today as it ever has been, which is why holiday rental accommodation in Nuoro is such a tempting prospect.

Nuoro is a great base for walking holidays to Sardinia. A local favourite is the walk from the town centre to the summit of Monte Ortobene, a vertical trip of almost a kilometre. From the statue of Jesus which marks the top, the views over the town and across the island and the sea are unbeatable. However, there are no limits to the number of sensational walks through the remote wilderness of Nuoro Province. There are some amazing geological formations throughout the highlands of Sardinia, including red granite, marble and limestone landscapes adorned with traces of the past, from as far back as the Neolithic ages.

During the summer months, the many miles of untouched, unspoilt beaches are a huge attraction to international visitors. There are a whole range of fantastically romantic little cove beaches along the Nuoro coast, where you can find a little cove to yourself, shared only with the rare bird species which call Nuoro home.

Places to visit on holiday in Nuoro, Sardinia

The port town of La Caletta is an ancient fishing village on the Nuoro coast, famous for its magnificent 10km stretch of powder soft, white sand beach. There are a wealth of water sports facilities in La Caletta, as well as options for mountain biking and walking in the mountains.

Cala Liberotto is another fantastic beach resort on the Nuoro coast. It boasts a wonderfully laid back atmosphere as well a range of restaurants, cafes and bars catering for all holidaymakers. Cala Liberotto is wonderfully scenic, with thick pine forests reaching right down to the seafront, producing a fantastic backdrop to the white sand beaches.

Orosei is the chief town of Nuoro’s most historically important region, Baronia. The old streets of Orosei are filled with limestone architecture, of particular note are the two churches, both impossibly picturesque. The town is not only a historical gem, but also a beach town.

Weather in Nuoro, Sardinia

Temperatures in the summer months are magnificently warm during the months of July and August, with average temperatures hovering around 30°C. At these times, the beaches of the east coast become a huge asset for those staying in Nuoro accommodation. Even during the coldest month of the year, January, average temperatures remain around 14°C, perfectly warm enough for walking and cultural winter breaks from the UK.

A very relaxing sunshine break in mid-September at Villa Allesandra

5 of 5
My wife and I had an extremely pleasant and relaxing break in the Sardinian sunshine of mid-September at the Villa Allesandra in the village of Taunanella, Budoni. It is about a 30 minute drive from Olbia airport and is relatively easy to find (Homeaway provided detailed driving instructions) although at the end of our journey, it took a few minutes to realise that having turned into Via degli Argonauti, you come to a junction where you turn left for about 15 metres and then Via degli Argonauti continues on the right. Having turned right, about 10 metres on the left, you will see the gate of the little community of properties in which the villa is situated. We eventually arrived at about 8 pm and as instructed we phoned the housekeeper who opened the gate and showed us to our property. (Note that the housekeeper only speaks Italian so it helps to speak a little Italian). The villa was clean, spacious and well-appointed and the swimming pool was just great (it is big enough to swim in rather than just paddle about !). There is a shaded area on the terrace and a large table so you can eat outside if you wish. There are two small supermarkets within 5 minutes walking distance and we recommend the fresh fruit and vegetables both sell. There is also a very good restaurant within 10 minutes walking distance which we recommend. You can walk to the beaches to the North East although it helped to have Google Maps on my phone ! (By the way, there is excellent 3G/4G Mobile service in the area and good and reliable WiFi in the villa). We spent one day touring and the roads were very quiet (certainly compared to the UK) so this made driving a very pleasant experience. Sardinia has some spectacular scenery so we would advise at least one day touring. Massimo (who speaks English) was extremely helpful with all our queries both beforehand and while we were there and he clearly takes care to ensure his clients have as good a holiday as possible. In summary, if you are looking for a relaxing break with your own private swimming pool in a quiet area, we would definitely recommend the Villa Allesandra.

A real "home away from home" !

5 of 5
This apartment is a fantastic choice. First, the location of the house is close to everything and at the same time is away from crowd and loud parts. The beach is nearly 5 min by foot along beautiful shady alley. There are several supermarkets just 3-5 min walk away, a gastronome, a take away pizza (if you are to cook and eat at the house). The house is extreamly spacious. We stayed: 4 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1child-absolutely enought space for everyone. 3 full bedrooms, two very spacious bathrooms. Everything is spaced out very conviniently so that no one bothers. The kitchen is like your own kitchen at home. It has everything you need to cook and to enjoy your meal. Beautiful upper terrace and a balcony gives a fantastic view over the bay. The lower BBQ area also has a huge table and everything you need to make a BBQ. The included A/C is such a bonus during hot summer nights. I also want to mention the parcking space right by the house and away from the srteet. It is very convinient since the parcking space is limited in Cala Gonone. The owners are very kind and open and ready to help any time. Thank you very much Attilio!
