Make a holiday rental home or villa in Novara, Italy your home away from home

The province of Novara lies in the Piedmont region of northern Italy, whose capital city goes by the same name. Novara is one of Italy’s most elegant and unhurried cities, first founded by the Ligurians and given a new lease of life by the Romans, whose influence is still very much the dominant influence. The surrounding countryside is known as the ‘land of water’, and is a stunning place to relax, where the scenery cannot fail to inspire.

Things to do on holiday in Novara, Italy

Novara is a fantastic place to investigate Roman history and lifestyles. The Decumano is undoubtedly the most famous sight of Novara, and is definitely worth visiting. The Piazza della Republica receives less attention around the world than it should. With the majestic, neoclassical cathedral designed by Alessandro Antonelli standing dominantly on one side and the fresco adorned Museo Lapidario della Canonica on the other, which displays some remarkable artefacts from throughout the ages.

Taking a self catering Novara holiday villa outside of the provincial capital is a different experience with each season. Situated between the snow capped alps and the blue waters of the lake region, spring time sees the entire plain covered in the clear melt waters coming off the mountains, forming the famous Piedmontese rice fields. There are two large nature reserves in the area which protect and preserve the many rare species of bird which flock to the region. The Lame del Sesia Nature Park is the largest, where cycling and walking are excellent options for an afternoon of entertainment, inspiration and interest.

There are eight golf courses within a short distance of a holiday rental villa in Novara. The Bogogno Golf Club, Castelconturbia Golf Club and Iles Borromees Golf Club all have at least 18 holes, set in beautiful, undulating scenery.

Places to holiday in Novara, Italy

Lake Orta is a mysterious jewel on the Piedmont boarder. The morning mists which rise from the lake give it an astonishingly medieval atmosphere. It is known as the lake of devotion due to having over 20 small chapels which surround the shore. The incredible beauty of the lake and the pure serenity of visiting means that those who visit very rarely wish to advertise the fact, keeping Lake Orta as a secret haven.

The southern tip of Lake Maggiore (known as Lake Maggiore South) lies in the Province of Novara, and is one of the most famous places in Italy to escape for a romantic break, due to the unrivalled beauty and tranquil atmosphere. There are also a huge number of activities to enjoy, from walking in the wooded hills and nature reserves which make up much of the shoreline to sailing or windsurfing on the lakes calm surface.

Weather in Novara, Italy

During summer, there is nothing nicer than relaxing on the balcony of a Novara villa, watching the sun go down over the skyline with a glass of local wine, as temperatures remain in the 20’s (°C) into the evening. Daily temperatures in summer are around 26°C, but in the winter, it does get cold, averaging around 6°C.

The best holiday we ever had!

5 of 5
Looking back at previous reviews: Yes, there are mosquitoes in August. Thinking back, the best prevention is to wear light trousers and long sleep tops! Yes the private beach is 10 minutes’ walk from the property, the descent is steep and it is a stone beach (but you are by a lake!) but the total privacy and the beauty of the spot is so worth it! Yes the access to the house is steep but after all the food from the local shop and the restaurants you will be glad of the exercise! Alternatively, you can drive. Paolo was the perfect host and went way beyond what we expected to make us feel welcome. The house is far more spacious and comfortable than we thought and the photos on the website really don't do it justice. Sitting on the terrace at night with the view of the island with only the sounds of the cicadas in the background is the most peaceful time ever. The village of Pella is not crowded with tourists and it is quite refreshing. Being able to just walk there for dinner was a definite plus. We didn’t do as much as we wanted and we kept saying: “Next time” because we will definitely be coming back!

Good spacious home

Great welcoming hosts, Lori's lovely wife showed us around the house with the help of their daughter who speaks very good English.. Well equipped house. Good base to explore this part of Italy. Close to train station, supermarket, lake Maggiore.
