We found Nicola and Rita’s house while searching for a nice, quiet corner of Sardinia to spend our 25th wedding anniversary. We arrived to a lovely warm welcome and a cake that said as much (for our special occasion) which really made us feel immediately welcome. The top floor of the house is easily accessed from a locked gate into the garden and by a set of outside steps to the little lounge-diner/kitchen area and then you follow the hallway where the three other, well furnished rooms come off. The kitchen was new and had everything you’d need for a short stay. Could quite easily host a family of 3-4 comfortably or 2 couples. We we’re on our own and had loads of space. Also felt very private and secure. The main bedroom had a lovely aspect looking out over the sea, beyond the road (which didn’t really spoil the peace) and was fabulous to wake up to. The second room didn’t have the view but was still large and comfortable. Shower room and loo had all the necessary, once we’d worked out the how to get the water temperature right! There’s air con and tiled floors throughout too, plus a ‘sun trap’ veranda with dining area, sun loungers and BBQ set where we chilled out with a book on those lazier mornings. The only minor negative thing we didn’t realise was the industrial area nearby but this was obscured by trees and was fairly dormant and easily ignored. Portoscuso itself is a lovely little place with an active church, a square, marina, live fishing port and several pizza bars, restaurants and little places we stumbled across by accident - all within a pleasant 15-20min seaside walk from the house. Also 2 or 3 really nice beaches and one with a cool beach bar/restaurant CocoLoco. There’s private car parking at the house, in easy reach of 2 supermarkets and the area surrounding. We found everything we needed, even out of season, in the last week of Sept. Worth checking out are the 1800bc archeological town Monte Sirai with its crypts, ruins and temple about 15mins drive and Nebida a bit further on with its little pizza bar overlooking a wonderful view at sunset (booking advised if eating). There’s some great little beaches to be found too all within about 30mins drive from the house and you’re never too far way from something that takes your interest or the urge to stop and admire the views. The island has so much to offer and we will return and explore some more. It’s a real jewel in Med! Thanks Rita and Nicola for welcoming us to your home.

After a twisty, mountainous drive you arrive at Portixeddu with an absolutely beautiful beach. The apartment is clean, bright and welcoming with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. There are chairs and a parasol to use to enjoy the outside area and a barbecue although we did not use this during our week here. Every day we walked down to the local beach, a matter of minutes away from our front door on foot! Mr Armas was on hand to help with any requests we had, and clearly wanted us to have a comfortable stay. To buy provisions you need to drive to Buggeru or use the local fruit and veg stall a 10 minute walk away. If we had one minor criticism, it would be that there was no WiFi, although the initial description of the property seemed to suggest that there was. There are a nice amount of places to get food - 3 restaurants, 2 beach cafes and a beach bar and there are some nice activities. We enjoyed snorkelling around the rocky area of the beach and had a great boat trip with a local company and the friendly host Nicola! All in all a chilled holiday in a quiet and scenic location.
