Make a holiday rental home or apartment in Montjovet, Italy your home away from home

If your dream holiday involves walking, hiking and skiing high up in the mountains, far away from the tourist masses, read on. Montjovet is situated in the Bassa Valley area of the Aosta Valley, Italy - a mountainous region in the north-west of the country, near both the French and Swiss borders. The Aosta valley was originally a Roman route through the alps, with Hannibal and his elephants believed to have passed through in the 3rd century BC. Montjovet can be your base for recreating his epic journey (minus the elephants!).

Things to do in Montjovet, Italy

Montjovet may be ‘off the beaten track’, but those that make the effort and book their self-catering accommodation here will undoubtedly be delighted with the stunning scenery and unexpected variety that the region has to offer. The town is a great base for holidaymakers that wish to stay in a semi-rural setting, but do not want to be inconvenienced by a lack of amenities. A decent number of cafes, bars and shops can be found in the town, meaning if you are happy to be self-sufficient in your Montjovet holiday apartment, you will never have far to travel to top up supplies.

If you prefer to eat out you will not be disappointed either, with wild boar, venison and porcini mushrooms some of the local specialities in the town’s restaurants. The Arnad-Montjovet area also produces a local medium-bodied dry red wine, which goes down a treat with these hearty dishes, and equally as well on its own.

Just a short distance from Montjovet, Monte Avic Natural Park sums up everything that is great about the Aosta Valley. Hiking and walking have long been the most popular activities in the park, with glacial lakes waiting to be explored, forgotten castles just asking to be rediscovered and mountains there to be climbed. Winters are all about skiing, but the park avoids the crowds of its Swiss and French neighbours.

Places to visit on holiday in Montjovet, Italy

A holiday in the Aosta Valley is all about exploring, and with so many other mountain villages within close reach Montjovet is a good place to do it from. It can be hard to choose between the destinations, but two tentative suggestions are Saint-Vincent (7km north) – home of a number of centuries-old castles and the more modern attraction of one of Europe’s largest casinos, and Aosta (43km north-west) – the principle town in the region.

Weather in Montjovet, Italy

The weather in Montjovet can be extremely cold during winter months, so make sure you pack your thermals. The coldest temperatures are found usually between December and February, when the daily average is a few marks below zero. Summer months are surprisingly pleasant, with most days above 10C, though there is always a chill in the air due to the altitude.

Flights to Montjovet, Italy

The easiest way to reach Montjovet is to fly to Turin Caselle Airport (TRN), 60km south. This destination receives flights through British Airways, easyJet and Ryanair, and can be reached in around an hour from the UK.

A good time had by all.

5 of 5
A spacious apartment for my wife and I along with our 19 year old son. A lovely garden for outdoor meals, bbq, sitting in and excellent for children. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Their daughter spoke some English which was very helpful. Easy access to main roads, but in a quiet rural location with fine views. The local waterfall and picnic area was a great find.

Beautiful country cottage

5 of 5
We have enjoyed very much our stay at Cerise Chantal. The cottage is very pretty, very clean and well equipped. Xavier, husband of the owner Chantal, has been great in explaining everything in detail on our arrival and we have spent few very relaxing days. I really recommend Bellecombe as it is a beautiful hamlet in the mountains and far away from noise and pollution. We will definitely go back to visit again. Also remember when you stay, to book the Trattoria dei Cacciatori (just 50 mt from the cottage) as the food is excellent and the service impeccable and friendly.
