Make a holiday home, farm house or apartment in Montepulciano, Italy your home away from home

Situated in Italy’s popular Tuscany region, the town of Montepulciano is set on a hilltop with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. This southern Tuscany town is about 115 miles north of Rome and 43 miles south east of Siena and is best known as a high class wine and food producing area. Montepulciano is most popular with couples, and a variety of holiday accommodation includes apartments and town homes, though many of the beautifully converted farmhouses in the area would also make this a great destination for families too.

Things to do on holiday in Montepulciano, Italy

The town and ‘comune’ is most famous for Montepulciano wine, though it is also a famous producer of some wonderful Italian foods too, making this an excellent gastro holiday destination! Pork, cheese, honey and lentils, as well as a variation on spaghetti pasta, are the region’s specialties, and you can try these along with some Montepulciano wine in some of the town’s restaurants.

Apart from the wine and food, Montepulciano has some interesting attractions too. The car-free city centre is great for strolling around, and from the Clock Tower of the Palazzo Comunale there are some wonderful views over the town and beyond. Piazza Grande is one of the town’s major squares where the medieval Palazzo Comunale and Palazzo de Nobili-Tarugi add to the impressive architecture. The Civic Museum and San Biagio Church are also popular, but wine lovers will be most interested in the numerous opportunities for tasting some of the Montepulciano wine, or taking a tour of the nearby vineyards and wineries.

Places to visit on holiday in Montepulciano, Italy

Holidaymakers wanting to spend a day away from their Montepulciano holiday accommodation will find that the whole of the Tuscany region has some beautiful scenery and landscapes to enjoy, making this a great place to take a walking, cycling or car tour. You may like to head towards some of the neighbouring towns and cities, such as Pienza, Chiusi, and Radicofani. Pienza’s historical centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Or if you have more time available, travel south to Rome and experience all that this amazing city has to offer.

The weather in Montepulciano, Italy

Montepulciano, and the rest of the Tuscany region, is known for its hot summers, and a climate which is closest to Mediterranean. Winters are mild, though can get colder at elevation in the interior of Tuscany. However, this is still a wonderful destination to visit in the winter too.

Flights to Montepulciano, Italy

As the town does not have its own airport your best choice to get to your Montepulciano holiday accommodation is to fly to Florence, Pisa or Rome. Florence is closest though does not have as much choice when it comes to airlines. Rome is a little closer than Pisa and with its good flight links this might be the best choice.

A Sublime Paradise in the Heart of Tuscany

5 of 5
Perfectly situated with a large terrace overlooking the magnificent Tuscan countryside, Villa Le Caggiole is a stunning villa managed by Francesca, the most charming of hosts. We were a group of women (later joined by our partners) looking for a special vacation. The location could not be a better home base for day trips to not only well-known destinations like Siena and Florence, but also to nearby picturesque hilltop villages for long lunches and staggeringly beautiful photo opportunities. The spotless, completely equipped villa has a historic relaxed elegance, with generous bedrooms and gathering spaces for large parties to spread out. Early morning walks, coffee by the beautiful pool, aperitifs on the huge terrace decorated with summer flowers quickly became routine. Best of all, Francesca was a perfect host, respectful of our privacy but quick to answer questions, offer suggestions, advice and guidance. I could not imagine a better place to relax and call home away from home, and do not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family. This property deserves 10 stars!!

A lovingly restored home

5 of 5
Just a wee note to say thank you for insuring that we had a wonderful holiday in Tuscany. Our accommodation was perfect for us - lovingly restored, spacious, warm and comfortable with ideal outdoor space. We spent a happy hour reminiscing, laughing and of course devouring copious amounts of delicious Tuscan wine! We so appreciated your attentiveness to share knowledge of the area, and tips which greatly enhanced our experience. Thank you also for our welcome pack, Jan's delicious birthday cake and all the added extras which were much appreciated. Not forgetting our initial rescue from the Esso garage which gives new meaning to the phrase "Home delivery" ! You have a beautiful home with a warm and welcoming ambiance which we felt privileged to share. We wish you well for the rest of the season. Don't be too surprised if we return to haunt you in the future. Very best wishes to you all.
