Things to do in Monteleone d’Orvieto, Italy

Monteleone d’Orvieto dates back to the 11th century, and has many sites of historical interest – though not as many as there may be as a fire destroyed part of the comune in 1350. Of the buildings that still stand the Church of SS. Apostoli Pietro e Paolo (which houses several local works of art) and the 17th century Church of SS. Crocfisso - with its striking baroque altar - are two of the most impressive.

Remains of Monteloene d’Orvieto’s medieval town walls can still be seen around the outskirts of the comune, including the well-preserved northern gate. Inside the walls the town centre essentially consists of a single, long street, with brick buildings lining its edges and providing a compact feel to proceedings. Grocery shops and traditional businesses can be found in this area, but those seeking to completely stock up may wish make the short journey into nearby Citta della Pieve.

The Torrione (Big Tower) is a great place to enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding Umbria region, and if you fancy heading out and exploring simply step outside the town walls, as you will be instantly greeted with miles and miles of rolling hills and farmland – perfect for hiking, walking and a variety of other outdoor options.

Wonderful stay at il Granaio

5 of 5
We stayed in this lovely part of Umbria for two weeks last August. Francesco was a gracious host. Always willing to help but equally gave us space to get on and enjoy our holiday. The property and grounds are spacious, with lovely views of the Umbrian hills. The swimming pool was amazing with views that couldn't be beaten. The location was ideal as it was within easy distance of towns like Perugia and Assisi to name but two and we had some lovely trips to more local towns and hill top villages. Local facilities were good with Tavernelle only a 15 minute drive away and a nice Monday morning market (and great ice creams). We'd certainly recommend this property and the local area. A real taste of Umbria.

Wonderful villa

5 of 5
We have stayed in many villas in Italy and Casale Colle Lupo definitely ranks as one of the best. The villa itself is simply but stylishly decorated, with all the comforts you need for your stay. The pool and views are wonderful. We had a very relaxing stay with our teenage children. Panicale is only a very short distance away with charming bars, restaurants and a few shops. The location is perfect for visiting the sights of Umbria and Tuscany. We thoroughly recommend this villa and will definitely return one day. The Barnett family

Wonderful Experience

5 of 5
Il Berneto is a beautiful home on the edge of a village that is almost too Italian to be real and barely gets a mention in the guide books. Our host was responsive, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The house is huge and can easily accommodate 3-4 families. The house has character, charm and was well equipped for the whole family from grandparents to kids. We would happily return.
