Make holiday rental accommodation or property in Montecarlo, Italy your home away from home

Montecarlo, Italy, not to be confused with Monte Carlo in Monaco, is a magnificently impressive walled town in the Lucca Province of Italy. Located deep in the Lucca hills, Montecarlo holidays have remained off the beaten track for tourists, and the town has stayed well away from the eyes of developers. Montecarlo is nothing short of magical to look at, with noble, red stone buildings surrounded by the wonderful natural Tuscan countryside.

Things to do on holiday in Montecarlo, Italy

The ruins of the original castle (the del Cerruglio fortress) which stood on the site of Montecarlo are still clearly visible, with the sturdy, pink curtain walls protruding intimidatingly from the hillside. The well preserved village centre, which stands in the shadow of the castle, is encased by walls, and is home to a number of fantastic attractions, including the Theatre of the Rassicurati and the Porta Fiorentina, one of the four original town gates.

Surrounding Montecarlo accommodation are olive groves and wineries which share much in common with the styles of French white wine vineyards. There are winery tours of the vineyards in the area, the majority of which are more than happy to allow wine tasting sessions and tours of their cellars.

The Tuscan countryside is known as some of the finest for walking and hiking, and the area surrounding Montecarlo accommodation is among the best. The wooded hills hide idyllic spots and viewpoints over the Tuscan coastline, and you can walk for many hours, discovering picturesque mountain lakes and beautiful national parks.

After touring the fine places of interest in the village, walking in the hills or touring Montecarlo’s famous vineyards, you can either return to your Montecarlo property and relax in peace, taking in the remarkable views or head into the village to sample the best of local cuisine in one of the exquisite restaurants which call Montecarlo home. La Vecchiaccia restaurant attracts visitors from many miles due to its fantastic atmosphere and delicious dishes, and is well worth visiting (at least once) during your stay in Montecarlo accommodation. Wine tasting holidays in Montecarlo are easily arranged, and bus tours can be organised from scratch in just 2 days.

Lovely house in great surroundings, large clean swimming pool, good outdoor eating area.

4 of 5
Our stay was spoilt by the weather. Only 4 days of sun in 2 weeks. Owner very easy to get on with...happy to help at all times.. definetly need a car as no supermarket or small shops to hand. Kitchen could better equipped with more bowls and mugs. All pillows rather hard and we felt each bed should have at least 2. We enjoyed our stay..visited the hills, lovely Lucca and by train to a very busy Florence .

The villa was lovely and spacious, very well equipped. What a view! The pool was out of this world, the kids loved it as did we. Giuseppe was so so helpful, booked us a restaurant, gave us travel advice - where to park for the main cities. It is perfectly positioned for Lucca, Pisa and Florence, nothing was too far. It was like having a friend you could call on -thank you so much we had a lovely holiday. The local restaurants were lovely and locals friendly. It was a peaceful haven, you do need to drive but just gorgeous we had a lovely lovely time. Thanks Giuseppe and Raoul xxxx
