I had a truly wonderful experience staying at the apt. Bastione in Lucca.I was there for 9 days. Some of the time I had friends visiting and for about 4-5 days I was alone.I felt very secure when alone. Sonia was very accurate in her description of the apt.She was very helpful and always available.I booked the apt.on the internet from the USA. It was with pleasure to discover how accurate were the pictures and description of the apartment. The restaurants were delightful and everything within walking distance and convenient. My niece's engagement was celebrated in the garden and then at a near-by restaurant.I cannot say enough how wonderful my stay was.The restoration of the building and apt.were done to perfection.I live in an historic area in NYC and recognize how well done the restoration was. My age is 57 years but the apt. was perfect for other ages as well as the stairs are affordable. We walk everywhere in my neighborhood. A car is not necessary in Lucca either. Trains and buses are close by and convenient.I hope this is helpful for future travellers
We had a late arrival because of flight times but Davide was there to meet us in Sant'Alessio, Lucca. The flat's position well away from the main road down a side lane means that you feel as if you are in the middle of the Tuscan countryside with views to die for of the hills in the distance, even though you are only 5 minutes by car from the Lucca Walls ( le Mura di Lucca).. The flat is very well planned with lots ofhanging and storage space, particularly in the bathroom. We as a couple only used the double room but there is also a smaller bedroom with bunk beds and a spacious wardrobe. There is a supermarket , Crai at the end of the lane opposite the petrol station and it is open from 8am so ideal to pick up fresh bread, milk etc for breakfast. It also means you can buy as you go along rrather than doing a big shop then finding you are left with lots of things at the end of your stay. There is a dishwasher but remember to bring 4 or 5 tablets with you as these are not provided. We bought cleaning cloths and left them but perhaps bringing these would be a help. The kitchen is well equipped with a hob and oven. There is no microwave but there is a small kettle and toaster. The wifi was strong and Davide also has a smart TV, which means you can watch movies in their original language which pleased my husband who doesn't speak Italian There are also lots of DVD's if you were at home and didn't want to watch Italian TV. The flat is much nicer in real life than the pictures suggest and we really enjoyed our stay there and hope to use it again in the future.
