Escape to the real Italy

5 of 5
We have just had a fantastic holiday.Maria and her husband could not have been better hosts.Welcoming and always there to help , if we need to find out information they were on hand to advise us.The apartment was perfect for us and spotlessly clean. If you want all day full english breakfast and Paddys bar with Sky Tv this not the place for you. However if you want to go to Italy to see and taste Italy you will be hard pushed to find a better place to be. 10 mins by car to either the beach or the mountains. Eating out at night time is only a 10 min walk to a range of restaurants.Saturday night down by the square was a sight to see from traditional to modern day shows . I would say you will need a car (there is parking at the house) as this is in the centre of town and you will want to get out and about. We struggled to think of how we could have made our holiday any better.

attractive, clean, spacious villa with Apuan Alps

4 of 5
The description given by the owners seems to sum this villa up well. It was certainly spacious, set in its own grounds, with lovely views of the Apuane Alps behind. The villa stayed cool during the heat of the day due to the shutters and the design of the building , with overhanging roofs and thick walls. This is not as cool as air-conditioning would provide, but we managed fine with this, in temperatures of 30 degrees C and above. We found that we needed to make use of the fly shutters on the windows and doors to avoid the mosquitoes. The villa was clean and well presented. The use of Apuane marble in the villa is pleasant. As a family with three older teenagers / young twenties, we did not have a car for our stay. This would be a drawback for many families. We walked along road sides to the nearest supermarket, which took around 12 minutes. The walk to the public beach was around 30 minutes. (We walked to Massa once to catch the train. This took around an hour and we used taxis after this!) We chose to spend time around the villa and grounds because we found them pleasant and relaxing. On arrival we were shown the house by the housekeeper / manager who does not speak English. However, she had a very approachable person who spoke good English with her. This made the introductions very easy. He was kind enough to take us to the local supermarket as we had just arrived by train and had no idea where to go! I don't expect he is able to offer this service to everyone, but it was very kind! We enjoyed travelling to Pisa and Lucca by train on one day and top Cinque Terre by train another day. We would certainly recommend both of these trips. The landscape was different at each location. The villa made the stay a pleasant and enjoyable one.
