Make a holiday rental cottage or villa in Martina Franca, Italy your home away from home

The town of Martina Franca perfectly symbolises everything that the Murge plateau in Puglia is about. The ancient town centre has been perfectly preserved, with fantastically elegant baroque architecture providing a magnificently regal façade, and attracting visitors from miles around. Located in the heart of the Valle d’Itria, which is known colloquially as ‘the Valley of the Trulli’, there can be no finer setting to truly immerse yourself in traditional Puglian cultures than a Martina Franca villa.

Things to do in Martina Franca, Italy

The historic centre of Martina Franca is a real treasure. The charming white houses nestle between imposing baroque facades, with wrought iron balconies awash with the bright colours of flowering plants. There are a whole host of delightful little churches, extravagant palaces and elegant memorial arches throughout the centre, providing an incredible view at every turn.

The countryside surrounding a Martina Franca property rental is a joy to explore. Not only is the Valle d’Itria a wonderful place to walk, ride and cycle, it is adorned with vineyards which produce the region’s finest wines and are open for tours and wine tasting sessions and traditional trulli, the charming white, conical houses. Horse riding holidays are also exceptional in the region.

Places to visit on holiday in Martina Franca, Italy

Puglia is awash with places worth visiting, and to see it all, you would have to take self catering Martina Franca accommodation for many months. The White City of Ostuni can certainly not be omitted from any sightseeing tour, nor can the roman and baroque marvels of Lecce. The whole region is actually adorned with castles, monumental villas, ancient villages and charming churches worthy of investigation.

The beaches of southern Italy are just 30km from a Martina Franca property too, and although the summer remains refreshingly cool up on the Murge Plateau, the allure of a day at the beach is always strong. The coastline is stunningly beautiful, wonderful under-developed, and consisting of a chain of small bays and beaches seemingly untouched by human hands. Water sports are available though, with water sports found in the larger seaside towns.

Travel to Martina Franca, Italy

A holiday rental in Martina Franca is 70km from Brindisi Airport (BDS). Brindisi Airport receives direct Ryanair flights from London Stansted (STN) on a regular basis, and although it is possible to reach a Martina Franca villa via public transport, having the use of a hire car is very strongly recommended during your Martina Franca holiday.

Wonderful relaxing villa

5 of 5
We stayed at the villa and trullo with my sister and her family. The set up worked really well as it meant both families had some privacy whilst being close. It was also perfect for the five children. They had a lot of fun in the huge pool, playing on the lawn and on the swings. The pool area is very safeyly gated which provided peace of mind as three of our five children couldn't swim. Ina had provided loads of toys which also kept them entertained. Both houses are stylishly decorated and very comfortable. Everything worked well and if ever there was a small problem, Sandro came over very quickly to fix it. Ina and Sandro were very welcoming and very helpful with their recommendations in terms of beaches, restaurants and towns to visit. We really enjoyed visiting Ostuni, Lecce and Locorotondo as well as beaches on both coasts. We would definitely recommend the houses to friends, especially if they had children.

A delightful Trullo in a lovely rural area

5 of 5
When we were looking for a holiday we stumbled upon Puglia and thought it looked really interesting, the landscape dotted with Trullos, old hill towns and World Heritage Sites. We weren't disappointed. There are lots of lovely places to visit - some close like Martina Franca, Locorotondo and Alberobello (best icecream ever from a little gelataria overlooking the terraces) - places further afield like Matera and the caves at Castellana were amazing and well worth the visit. We booked Trullo of Dreams because it looked lovely in all the photos, had good reviews and it suited the size of our party - 5 adults - and it more than met our expectations. It is extemely well equipped, very comfortable, tastefully furnished with a lot of attention to detail. The pool was absolute bliss and we all enjoyed it - deep enough to swim in, same level throughout and great for the non-swimmer in our party who was able to enjoy it without getting out of his depth. The memories of the inflatible unicorn races across the pool will stay forever! Susan came to clean the pool every few days and also brought us breakfast - warm croissants! She was a brilliant host, warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The fridge/larder was well stocked on our arrival with milk, water, juice, ham, cheese, bread, cake, biscuits, fresh fruit, pasta, tins tomatoes, tea and coffee and wine. We didn't venture out the first night, getting straight into the pool and making a lovely meal with the provisions available. The coffee machine was a big success with what seemed like a never-ending supply of coffee capsules. There is plenty of outside space with a choice of seating, sunloungers and hammock, in the sun or the shade. We spent a lot of time relaxing in the shade under the enormous olive tree just outside the kitchen area - frequently joined by Haggis the cat. Our holiday was a mix of relaxing and sightseeing but it was difficult to tear ourselves away from the Trullo some days and always a joy to return to in the evening.
