Make a holiday apartment in Maristella your home away from home

Some people prefer the type of seaside holiday where they can dance the night away in beach bars. Others prefer some place quiet where they can hear the waves lapping at the shores at night and where during the day, they can enjoy the ocean in peace. If you fall in the latter category, a Maristella holiday apartment is just the place for you. Holiday apartments in Maristella make the perfect base for active travellers and nature lovers. There is a variety of rental properties at HomeAway to suit different budgets and most are equipped with facilities like a BBQ where you can cook the day’s catch to perfection.

Things to do

Maristella is a small residential area near Porto Conte in the north-western part of Sardinia. It overlooks a bay that forms part of the Capo Caccia Marine Protected Area.

-The seaside location is undoubtedly the main reason for renting a holiday home in Maristella. There are some stunning white, sandy beaches within walking distance and you can take part in a wide range of water sports, from fishing to windsurfing. Porto Conte has a dive centre and the waters in the bay are clear with high visibility, perfect for scuba diving. Adventurous divers come here from far and wide to dive the many underwater caves.

-Saint Imbenia is an important archaeological site about a mile northwards along the coast from Maristella. The site not only contains the remains of a Roman villa and a Phoenician necropolis, but also something even older and uniquely Sardinian: the remains of a Nuragic village with a nuraghe, a fortified stone tower. Eastward on the road to Fortilia there’s another nuraghe that’s even more impressive: the Nuraghe Palmavera.

- Hiking, cycling, horse riding and rock climbing opportunites are plentiful in the area around Maristella holiday villas. The Porto Conte Regional Park which is adjacent to Maristella is a particularly good destination for adventurous nature lovers.

-Cappo Caccia and its most famous attraction, Neptune’s Grotto, is on the western side of the bay. The cave with its sea entrance really looks like the perfect home for the Roman god of the sea. Stalactites hang down as if they’re trying to touch the stalagmites protruding from a saltwater lake, making for a very dramatic sight.

-Alghero is the perfect place to visit to stock up on provisions for your self-catering Maristella holiday accommodation . Here you’ll find bustling markets, especially the Wednesday market, as well as a host of little boutiques and shops. Alghero is a beautiful medieval town with a fascinating history evident in its architecture and unique Catalan dialect. Take some time to explore the town’s historic sites and museums or to enjoy a meal in one of its excellent restaurants while you’re here.

Weather in Maristella

Like the rest of Sardinia, Maristella has a Mediterranean climate. Summer temperatures can be soaring into the lower thirties and the days are sunny and dry: perfect beach weather. Winter is rainy season but temperatures remain mild enough to spend some time outdoors. Strong winds may blow for several days on end.

Getting to Maristella

Maristella is about 5 miles from Alghero-Fertilia Airport, which receives flights from several destinations in Europe, including the UK. You can also fly into another Sardinian airport and then travel to Alghero by car, train or bus and from there by car or bus to your holiday apartment in Maristella.

Location great for a peaceful getaway

4 of 5
We stayed here at the end of October, myself, my husband and teen children. You can't fault the location, 15 mins drive from the airport and gated for security with an allocated parking slot, which was really useful, although it wasn't buy in the slightest. Mariella, was really helpful in showing us all of the equipment and facilities and theres even a 'library' with local information. For the 4 of us the apartment was just right for a week, although for any longer it would have been nice to have somewhere a little bigger. The balcony overlooks the main road, but as it was out of season, it was very quiet, nice to sit out here in the mornings and evenings - with a blanket. There was a barbecue, but we didn't use it and I dint think it worked either. There was outdoor seating for 6 and a small washing line. The main room doubled as a bedroom as there was s of a bed, which we used instead of the bunk beds in the very small second bedroom. the main bedroom is lovely, clean and minimal. Lots of towels and linen to hand as well. There were also beach towels and beach chairs that we took down to Maria Pia beach which is a 5 minute walk away. The kitchen is very small, just a corner of the room - all functional, but very small so there is limited space for food storage, other than the fridge. Mariella kindly provided a cool bag which was really handy to take lunch down to the beach. As the apartment is on the second floor, its not good if you can't manage steps or have access issues, otherwise really nice and we'd stay again. Thanks Mariella for a great apartment.

Great, super location

5 of 5
Great location, just a few metres from a lovely beach. A nice evening stroll in to Alghero too work up an appetite and watch the sun go down on the way. Then stroll back too work off those extra calories. The apartment was really lovely, as depicted on web site. Raffaella was waiting for us on arrival and waved us back to the cold uk. I would recommend to anyone that wants to unwind and relax. A Griffin 14 Oct 2017
