Malcesine is one of the most enchanting and enticing villages on Lake Garda, sitting on its north-eastern shores under the careful watch of magnificent Monte Baldo. It is also without a doubt one of the best-positioned villages in the region, being close to beaches, shops, cafes, restaurants, castles and all of the attractions of the lake itself. Malcesine is also the start point for a cable car ride to Monte Baldo and the home of a great range of Lake Garda apartments and villas.

Things to do in Malcesine, Italy

Lake Garda is famous for being an outdoors-lovers paradise, and Malcesine is the start point for some of the finest walks and hikes in the region. The more energetic should consider taking the cable car, which runs from the centre of the village up 6000ft to magnificent Monte Baldo. The drop-off point is near the peak of this rugged mountain range, meaning there are some excellent hiking and climbing opportunities waiting to be taken advantage of, as well as plenty of scenic photography opportunities.

Even if you do not want to go hiking up it you can still enjoy Monte Baldo, as it can be seen from all around Malcesine. Whether you are enjoying a spot of breakfast in your Malcesine villa, rejuvenating with a strong espresso in one of the village’s cafes, or eating outside a local restaurant on a balmy summers evening, the mountain looms large and provides a unique backdrop.

One of the main sites in Malcesine is the magnificent renaissance castle, which towers over the lake and has a fascinating history that dates back hundreds of years. The whole village has retained its medieval feel, with traditional businesses such as bakeries and pasta shops still doing a healthy trade, and combining well with more modern attractions such as beachside snack bars and popular pizzerias.

Charming, clean, traditional yet modern with stunning views

5 of 5
Just back from the most wonderful holiday to Malcesine where we stayed at la Pervinca apartments. We were delighted with the apartment and the views were spectacular. The apartment was spacious, clean, traditional yet modern. Located not far from the centre ( 5-10min walk) and also a couple of minutes from the cable car ( totally recommend !! ) The owner was very welcoming and went out of his way to help us and we can't thank him enough for that. We would definitely recommend a stay at either of his properties. The service was first class 👍

Spacious property in an amazing location.

Our 5th visit to Malcesine but our 1st stay in this property as we usually stay in the Hotel Casa Barca or Hotel Dolomiti. We had friends join us on this holiday so wanted the flexibility of a self catering apartment. Property has amazing views and is in an incredible central location at the small harbour in Malcesine. Only niggle with property was that it lacked wine glasses (nitpicking here) but it is run by the Hotel San Marco next door who happily provided us with some when we asked. Will happily book this location for our next visit.
