Make a holiday rental home or farmhouse in Macerino, Italy your home away from home

Macerino is a frazione (parish) of Acquasparta, and lies around 15km from its commune. The official census figures list the population of the hamlet at just seven people, though in reality this swells during summer months when foreign visitors hit town in search of their perfect rural holiday destination. That is not to say that the village becomes over-run, however, simply that you must book in advance if you wish to stay in this delightful 16th century hilltop village.

Things to do in Macerino, Italy

There are two public squares in the centre of the village, the main one being Piazza del Pieve. Here you will find the parish church of S. Biagio, which is open to the public and houses a number of fine paintings and other works of art. There is another church in to be found, namely the Madonna del Fiore (though this is not always open to the public), and the village is great for a lazy stroll on a hot summers day.

Amenities in the village are limited, with only a single bar to be found. Shops, cafes and restaurants are all found within close proximity, however, and touring the small towns and villages of this unspoilt region are what a holiday in Umbria is all about. Acquasparta is the administrative centre of the local area, and has much more in the way of amenities, though the town is 15km away, and the use of a hire car is almost essential when staying in this especially rural part of Italy.

What else you do in Macerino is purely down to personal preference. Some visitors like to walk and hike in the surrounding countryside, taking in the unspoilt views that the hilltop location offers. Others are happy to relax in the confines of their Macerino holiday rental accommodation, watching the sun set with a glass of local wine in hand. Horse riding, mountain biking and fishing are just some of the many other options that can be enjoyed in this rich and varied region.

Fabulous pool, lovely characterful home, stunning views - beautiful, historic Umbria - go for it!

We had a wonderful holiday with family in Poreta and relaxed instantly. September weather was great - hot days, cooler evenings, still warm enough for night-time dining outside. What we loved most: - Large, clean, single-depth pool (adult shoulder high) with awesome views across valley - Sunny terrace outside kitchen where we chilled, watched sunset and ate most of our meals - Lots of friendly local restaurants to suit every taste and budget. We ate well! - Fresh pasta shop in the village; buy to cook for yourself - Modern kitchen with good quality equipment and utensils - Brilliant village wine shop with interesting local wines - Walking - try the 11km route along Roman aqueduct from Spello to Collepino - Easy drive to medieval towns like Assisi, Gubbio (cable car is a must!) and Montefalco - Only 40 mins from Perugia airport so additional family could join us for the weekend - Black and green figs and yellow plums delicious in the garden - Good wi-fi connection - Last and certainly not least - the amazing Bianca who manages the house. We were slightly worried about privacy when we booked but everything turned out exactly as described. The big house was vacated, leaving us completely alone. Bianca met us in the village and showed us up to the house; she later quickly organised a small carpentry repair when needed (our fault); she never ever intruded. She and Sylvia (the owner) ensured our stay was completely relaxing and were very sensitive to our wish to be helped 'from a distance'. Thank you! Our only other comments would be: - There are a number of steep steps/drops inside and out so we wouldn't recommend for little ones or anyone unsteady on their feet - Four more kitchen mugs would be useful - A few more coat hangers helpful (fighting for these!) - An extra main door key would be handy for guests Thank you for a fabulous stay!

We had such a great stay. Lovely and friendly owner and really helpful guide when we arrived and during our stay. Thank you both. A beautiful home with a stunning view. Great pool and lots of really well thought out spaces to enjoy and make the most of the weather and view. Really restful.
