Make a holiday rental apartment or villa in Macerata, Italy your home away from home

The medieval walled town of Macerata is found in the Marche region of eastern central Italy. Built between the 16th and 19th centuries, the town has an understated dignity, with striking Renaissance architecture surrounding two-tiered arcades and fine palaces. Macerata is a hugely cultural place to visit, adorned with provincial art galleries, charming cafes and surrounded by outstanding Roman relics. However, most people will have originally been drawn to a holiday rental villa in Macerata for the world famous open air Opera Festival in July.

Things to do on holiday in Macerata, Italy

The Macerata Opera Festival is staged in the colossal Sferisterio arena, a masterpiece of Neoclassical architecture which, although originally designed for Pallone (Italian football), perfectly resonates the operatic marvels which unfold below. During July when the festival is staged, holiday homes in Macerata become even more popular than they are during the rest of the year due to the international audience which make the journey annually, so booking early is usually essential.

During the rest of the year, Macerata, Italy, is a quite, dignified city with many stunning palaces, and places of special interest to visit. Located off the main square, the Piazza della Liberta, the Corso Matteotti is lined with some of the town’s most extravagant palaces, including the beautiful Palazzo dei Diamanti. The adjacent Corso della Republica is home to fine provincial art galleries and excellent museums relating the Italian history from the Unification of Italy through until the present day.

Surrounding the town is a range of magnificent Roman ruins. Within just a few kilometres of a self catering Macerata villa is the settlement of Helvia Ricina, where you can still see the focal points of a Roman town, including a range of villas and a huge amphitheatre.

The centre of the province is a beautiful rural region of green rolling hills and traditional farmland, making a Macerata holiday home ideal for walking holidays exploring the heartland of the department in luxury.

Places to go on holiday in Macerata, Italy

Tolentino is probably the best known town in Macerata, Italy. Its fame is down to the huge, humbling church build in the town centre which is adorned with some of the most celebrated frescos in the whole of Italy.

Weather in Macerata, Italy

Macerata is located in a temperate region of Italy, where summer temperatures reach a calming 25°C during the summer months, resulting in long, warm summer’s evenings, perfect for an evening at the Macerata Opera Festival or enjoying a glass of wine on the balcony of a self catering holiday rental in the town.

Flights to Macerata, Italy

Ryanair fly direct from Stansted (STN) to Ancona Airport (AOI), which is within an hour of all of the Macerata holiday rentals. Rimini (RMI) and Pescara (PSR) airports are within two hours, and have a slightly larger range of departure points from the UK.

An Oasis With Breathtaking Views

5 of 5
From the moment we parked our car, smelled the wonderful country air, sidestepped the abundant lavender and entered the courtyard of 'Casa Menta' taking in the view that never stopped to amaze us, we knew we would spend three weeks of heaven in this magical place. The photographs do not do it justice. The house is full of charm and very tastefully furnished. The kitchen is spacious with all the modern amenities, including a Nespresso machine and a pantry that was so well stocked when we arrived, I was speechless. For people who have difficulties with stairs, the house might be a challenge since there are three floors and some steep steps. We were definitely very happy to have one of the three toilets (2 are on the third floor) on the first (ground) floor. The outdoor dining area is absolutely lovely and the sitting area just outside the kitchen is cool during the hottest hours. The pool is located below the house and is reached via a walkway with several steps in a couple of minutes--the location is beautiful and very private. Sant'Angelo in Pontano, the little town just a few minutes drive away provides all the necessities--we especially loved the COAL Supermarket. The Internet functioned flawlessly the entire time and the housekeeper Patrizia who lives close by was always available but very mindful of our privacy Anyone who is looking for a quiet, restful vacation away from it all--this is the place.

Fabulous apartment in unbeatable location

5 of 5
If you are looking for an apartment in town but also close to the beach then you cannot get better. The apartment is decorated and furnished to a very high standard has a lovely private terrace (which gets the sun all day), as well as 2 other smaller terraces off each of the bedrooms. The garage in the basement (with lift all the way up to the apartment) is a huge plus especially as it isn't easy parking in the streets of Porto Recanati. Just one bit of advice, we hired an Opel Mokka car and it only just fitted in the garage. Ria who gives you the keys and shows you around is really helpfully and always available on the phone should you have any questions or problems. We would definitely stay here again if visiting the area.
