  • Comfortable home with stunning view

This was a wonderful place to stay (especially as it rained a lot the week we were there in mid Sept) ; a real home rather than just a holiday house. The apartment is spotlessly clean, spacious, very well equipped and well located , just below Lanusei. So not in sight of the town, but close to all its facilities. The gardens around the house ( owners live below) are beautifully kept up - a real pleasure to sit in, and the view from the balcony is magnificent. Godrun and Carmine were very welcoming, and met us in town so we didnt need to find the property by ourselves initially , which would have been difficult. A good base for exploring beaches, mountains and nuragic ruins.

  • A great property in a perfect location

Villa Garau was the perfect home for our holiday in Ogliastra. It provided exactly what we wanted for our vacation: comfortable and spacious accommodation, plenty of facilities to cook our own meals and a peaceful location from which to explore the area. We were the first people to rent the house so it was absolutely spotless and everything was new. The property is exactly as described and the photos are a clear representation of what each of the rooms are like. We were fortunate to have the whole house to ourselves but it could very comfortably accommodate up to 10 adults across its 4 bedrooms (provided 4 people don’t mind sharing). The bunk beds are large enough to take adults – I tried and I’m 6 feet tall. We prefer to cook our own meals and the kitchen is perfect for this. There’s a wide selection of pans and utensils which means that there’s no restriction on what you can cook and there's more than enough crockery and glasses to go round if the house is full. There is a large brick-built barbeque in the courtyard too if that’s your catering preference, but we didn’t use it. The red “telephone box” next to the barbeque in the photos is a shower if you’re wondering! The nearest supermarkets are in Cardedu (a 10 minute drive away); they’re not very large but provide a good choice of fresh meat, veg and fruit as well as all the normal groceries. They closed between 13:00 and 17:00 when we were there, but a further 5 minute drive will take you to Bari Sardo where the supermarket is open all day. The house is set on a hillside, overlooking farmland and vineyards, with a small mountain directly behind the house. There is so much to explore within a short drive of the house. We particularly enjoyed driving in the mountains where we found a huge variety of stunning scenery with lots of places to discover on foot. I’d recommend a small car though – some of the mountain and village roads are quite narrow and twisting. The nearest beach at Marina di Cardedu is long and sandy, about 15 minutes’ drive from the house. Alessandro provided a great service at all times, both before and during our stay. He was very quick to respond to all of our questions, guided us to the house when we got lost on the day of our arrival and even tracked down the owner of a puppy that we found in the garden one evening - the perfect property manager! In summary, we would thoroughly recommend this house to anyone who, like us, enjoys an away-from-it-all holiday.
