Hugging the north-western shoreline on the beautiful island of Sardinia is the peaceful village of Lampianu. A Lampianu holiday is mostly enjoyed by those travellers who are keen to get away from it all and are desperate to stay separated from the tourist masses that flock to the island every year. The village is truly a hidden gem with plenty of sea and countryside surroundings to help you relax whilst on your trip. Not only will a Lampianu holiday rental house come with all the mod-cons you need, it will offer some spectacular views of the crystal blue Mediterranean Sea.
With the emphasis of a Lampianu holiday being placed on peace and quiet, it will come as no surprise that there are no noisy nightclubs or discos in or around the village. The activities available in Lampianu and the immediate area are limited to the likes of cycling, swimming, fishing, diving and horse riding. You may also like to arrange a guided walking tour of this beautiful part of Sardinia: a good opportunity to get up close and personal with the indigenous species of flora and fauna.
If you do decide to venture out to see the sights whilst on your Lampianu holiday then there are plenty of fantastic places to visit. This includes the town of Porto Torres, located around an hour to the east of Lampianu. One of the best sights to see in Porto Torres is the Basilica of San Gavino, which was built in the 11th century. The basilica has been fashioned out of materials such as granite and marble, and is the largest Romanesque style church to be found on the island. Other great attractions to see in Porto Torres include the Li Lioni Neolithic necropolis, the largest remains of a Roman bridge on the Rio Mannu, two Aragonese towers and the 3rd century Palazzo di Re Barbaro.
Those considering having a Lampianu holiday will be pleased to hear that they can expect to experience warm summers and mild, wetter winters. The months of July and August are generally the warmest months to go with the temperature during the day reaching as high as 31 degrees Celsius. The winter months see the temperature drop to anywhere between 8 and 14 degrees Celsius during the daytime. Lampianu experiences an average rainfall amount of 14 inches each year.
Travellers can begin a Lampianu holiday by arriving at Alghero Airport (AHO) which is less than 20 miles away from the village. Amongst the airlines offering regular, cheap flights to Alghero is Ryanair, BMIbaby, Thomson Airways, Alitalia and KLM. Passengers can leave the UK from several major airports such as Glasgow (GLA), East Midlands (EMA), Gatwick (LGW), Birmingham (BHX) and Manchester (MAN).
