Make a holiday rental house or villa in Lake Como, Italy your home away from home

Lake Como, Italy, deep in the Lombardy region, is a haven of peace and serenity, just half an hour from the vigorous life styles of Milan. The snowy peaks and lush Mediterranean vegetation give Lake Como a magnificently tranquil atmosphere, and the area has become synonymous with relaxing or romantic getaways. Since the days of the Roman Empire, visitors have traveled for many miles to see the blue waters, wooded mountains and luxurious villas of Lake Como.

Things to do on holiday in Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como itself is an ideal spot to enjoy sailing, swimming, windsurfing and kite-surfing to name a few of the water sport activities popular available from a villa on the banks.

Walking and cycling holidays are hugely popular around Lake Como. Tours on bike and foot are available of some of the better known trails, but with so much idyllic countryside to be enjoyed, taking a map and exploring is a magnificent way to discover this wonderful region when staying in a self catering Lake Como villa.

However, a huge majority of your holiday spent in a Lake Como villa will undoubtedly be spent relaxing and enjoying both the scenery and company.

Places to holiday in Lake Como, Italy

Bellagio, ‘the pearl of the lake’, has the pick of the locations on the banks of Lake Como, where the two forks of Lake Como split. Offering awe-inspiring views, rich cultural heritage and historic gardens, a Lake Como villa in Bellagio will not fail to impress and relax any visitor.

Varenna is a magnificently peaceful resort on the shore of Lake Como. Smaller than Bellagio, it does however boast a magnificent castle offering stunning views down the lake, and a myriad of water sport possibilities. As a mid-lake fishing village, boats and sailing are in the blood, and it is also a great base to set off on mountain treks.

The ancient town of Gravedona sits peacefully on the banks of Lake Como, sheltered by the mountains. It is one of the most picturesque areas of the lake, characterized by small, intimate squares and quaint historic monuments, churches and religious events, not to mention a wealth of sporting and leisure activities, from sports centres to nature-tourism.

Weather in Lake Como, Italy

From March until late October is when the villas of Lake Como are at their busiest, when sailing, windsurfing, hiking and cycling are best enjoyed. During the winter, many hotels and restaurants close, but the self catering villas still offer a stunningly peaceful retreat from the bustle of everyday life, and snow is not unusual in January, making Lake Como even more beautiful.

I stayed in this apartment with my partner, two 19 year old girls and two 21 year old young adults. It was fantastic. Room for everyone. The apartment was clean, well equipped, spacious and had beautiful views from the terraces. A nearby hotel, the Aurora had boats for hire and Wakeboarding. For a fee of 10 euros for a full day or 5 euros from 2:30pm you can use the hotels sun loungers on a decked area, canoes, kayaks and a trampoline in the water. the hotel has a lovely dining area which overlooks the lake. Another place to try is the wine store/bistro on the left hand side as you walk down to the Aurora. They open about 6-6.30pm. There is a small pebble beach only a two minute walk from the doorstep of the apartment and a small local shop and bar. The bus service is again very close and a short walk into the centre of Lezzeno brings you to a boat terminal. Gina, her father and uncle are all really friendly. Gina speaks great English and is full of information for you. Nothing is too much trouble for her. You can also use the garden to sit, sunbathe or dine. Lovely, lovely apartment, great people, in a most beautiful part of the world.

Gine was absolutely awesome host! Her apartment has great location - 2 minutes from lake with small beach, 20 steps from shop with food and wine, 200 steps from bus stop. You can park your car in the private parking (otherwise is parking really problematic around the lake), enjoy excelently fursnished apartment and view from balconies and or terrace. Gina gave us many tips for interesting places, you can easily (and you don't have to you your car) reach Belaggio, Menaggio, Varenna, Como, Lenno, Tremezzo and other great places or you can plan trip up to the mountainst. Really great stay!

My wife and I were looking for a good base for our first holiday to Italy. We were kindly recommended Lezzeno and the apartments of Gina Bruna by friends of my sister in law. Gina is an excellent host, she has taken a great deal of time to put together an information pack for her guests of just about everything that you can do in the local area, bus, ferry timetables and anything else you can think of its there. From this it became evident of the work she has put in to try and ensure her guests enjoy their stay to the max. The apartment is newly refurbished and absolutely spotless inside and out. She has reserved parking spaces and there are bus stops for Bellagio and Como a two minute walk away, (Bellagio is about ten minutes on the bus). Where Bellagio is immaculate, beautiful and very touristy, we found Lezzeno to have a real charm of its own, its much more natural, its a proper Italian village. There is only one small shop nearby but plenty of places for food and drink including the Excellent Hotel/Restaurant Aurora which is about ten minutes on foot. To summarise, Gina is a truly lovely person and she really cares about her guests, the apartment is modern and clean with parking and there are lots of things to do in the local area to keep you entertained. We had a fantastic time and will definitely go back in the future.
