Make an apartment in Lajatico your home away from home

Situated among hills of vineyards and olive groves, the small village of Lajatico is in the heart of Tuscany surrounded by natural beauty. The striking landscapes, medieval buildings and old stone churches are among Lajatico’s principle attractions and the annual open-air concert by its most famous son, the tenor Andrea Bocelli, draws visitors from all over the world. Lajatico also benefits from its proximity to the beautiful and historic cities of Pisa and Florence.

To help you take advantage of the area’s outstanding qualities HomeAway has a collection of gorgeous farmhouses and apartments in Lajatico village and the surrounding countryside. In a part of Italy where people love to live their lives outdoors, balconies, swimming pools, patios and expansive terraces are common features of many rentals. With hot summers and a favourable climate throughout the year, many holiday villas in Lajatico come with air-conditioning and private or communal swimming pools.

Things to do

-Outdoors: Lying between the Era and Cecina Valleys, Lajatico makes the most of its natural assets – an abundance of hills, valleys, meadows and forests are the main reasons why people rent apartments in Lajatico. There are numerous nature trails, footpaths and trekking routes as well as fabulous views and opportunities to see numerous native birds and animal species.

-Historic Monuments: History lovers will find much to enthuse and excite them with a clutch of buildings from centuries past. Among the highlights are the 13th-century church of St. Leonard, the bell-tower and clock, once part of the ancient castle of Lajatico and the 12th-century Municipal Palace. Over the years this building has served as a private home and seat of the Lajatico government.

-Culture: Carved into the hillside is the Teatro del Silenzio (Theatre of Silence), a purpose-built open-air theatre framed by the Lajatico hills. The venue is only open for one day of the year when Lajatico native Andrea Bocelli hosts an annual concert in July. The theatre was his idea and the setting includes an artificial lake with a large sculpture of a face at its centre.

-Events: Lajatico is proud of its culture and traditions and pays tribute to them with a variety of feasts and festivals throughout the year. Among the most important are the Feast of the Farmyard during the fourth week of June, the village fair in September and October’s Festival of Chestnuts.

Weather in Lajatico

The climate around holiday villas in Lajatico is mild for most of the year. The warmest months are July and August, with average daily highs of 30°C. The coolest months are December and January when temperatures can drop to as low as 1°C. Conditions between mid-April and early June are ideal for long walks. November is the wettest month, but October, December, March and April can also receive heavy rainfall.

Comfortable and ideally located to visit Tuscany

4 of 5
Located in the peaceful coutryside of Tuscany, the place is ideal to visit nice villages and famous cities. We enjoyed the charm of the house, comfortable and well-equiped. The pool was perfectly clean and big enough to be shared by the 3 families who rented at the same time. It was a real pleasure after a long day of visit. Massimo, the owner, is very nice and did his best to help us, advise us and make us feel at home. Thank you so much for your kindness!

Wonderful stay in wonderful location

5 of 5
Our family had a great holiday in Casa Colomba. The location is perfect (with 3 bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen) and has a great view. The new private pool is cleaned every day. Thank you Janis, for these relaxing weeks in your house in Tuscany! Wolfgang & Family
