Overall: Our multigenerational family of eight spent three weeks at La Cappella on overlapping visits. For some, it was a first visit to Italy. Our goal was to introduce the family to as many wonderful Italian sights and experiences as possible. Roughly midway between Florence and Rome, and just off the A1 highway, La Cappella was the perfectly located base for a grand family "introduction to Italy" adventure. Though located in an oasis of tranquility, the villa's location made car trips to all the top places on our "must see" list feasible. For us, the villa was a perfect choice. We knew we were in for something special when, upon arrival, Jude and Richard offered glasses of cold Proseco while we were shown around the house and grounds. We arrived to find a carefully selected welcome basket of food and wine and a fridge stocked with the basics including homemade fig jam. The meticulously crafted detailed Welcome book that had been emailed to us prior to our trip was available in book form on our arrival at the villa. Enjoyed Most: La Cappella was idyllically located while enjoying all the modern amenities and almost within walking distance of local produce and a local trattoria. Ours is a family of cooks and we found the kitchen fully stocked for cooking and the grapevine covered pergola a blissful place to dine al fresco with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing. While nearby Acquapendente was great for convenience items, we purchased organic meats, produce and handmade pasta at nearby farms and markets (all recommended in the, by now, indispensable Welcome book). We learned to carry "the book" in our car to guide us to local points of interest, trattorias, and on recommended day trips. The villa grounds were lushly awash with roses, hydrangeas and fruit trees. Our ten year old grandson loved picking the peaches and fresh figs! Jude and Richard's personal attention to our family went above and beyond anything we had ever experienced. Jude arranged for personal chef, Doriana, to prepare a Tuscan meal on our second evening at the villa. She arranged for hiking guide, Petra, to lead us on a day long hike through ancient Etruscan tunnels to the Tufo town of Sovana. Unforgettable! When we expressed an interest in walking the ancient Il Sassetto forest below Torre Alfina Castle, Jude and Richard guided us on a walk through the magnificent forest they obviously love. Our adventures included the picture book

I'm actually reluctant to say how good this accommodation is for fear of it becoming difficult to book again! Beautiful house, fantastic location if you like being away from the crowds (which we do) and the most amazing scenery all around. This house is quite remote and you definitely need a car if only to be able to stock up on provisions. Lake Bolsena is within easy walking distance and is peaceful, quiet and unspoilt by tourism! We can only hope it remains that way. Everything in the house was clean, well maintained and well thought out, it was beautifully decorated and very comfortable inside and out. The owners of the property were lovely and very accommodating as we arrived much later than expected due to the cancellation of our flight. The owner came to the property during our week to clean the pool but was very unobtrusive and came and went within about 15 minutes with no fuss or bother. We would absolutely recommend this property without hesitation and have already booked to return next year but for longer next time.

Probably one of the best kept secrets in Italy!

                                                                          5 of 5
We thouroughly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful place. The old village house has been lovingly and competently restored to the highest standards by its architect owners. It is essentially a very light house but shuttters and insect screens make it possible to keep it very cool and prevent unwanted bugs from entering. For cooler times there is central heating and a beautiful fire place / wood burner. Patrizia, who speaks excellent English, has been extremely helpful and welcoming. She, in fact, looked after us throughout the two weeks, gave us a tour of the village, recommended restaurants and places to visit and even showed us the way to a secret bathing place - really absolutely invaluable! Perhaps, needless to say that she keeps the house immaculately clean. The small town is a warren of ancient houses on a steep hill side with lots of narrrow lanes and steps - ideal for exploring in the evening. It has its own Farnese palace, a number of interesting churches and ancient fountains. Best of all, it is alive, inhabited by very friendly people who live there all the time and use the bar, baker, butcher, other village shops and restaurants. But of course there is also plenty to see in the surrounding area, around Lago di Bolsena and also a little further in all dictions. There are amazing hillside towns and fortresses to be discovered as well as plenty of exciting evidence of earlier Etruscan settlements. Good walks should be possible during the cooler times of the year. We certainly will be back soon to experience more of this beautiful area.
