Giudecca is an island lying just to the south of Venice and is an ideal location for exploring this lovely area of Northern Italy. Giudecca is itself made up of eight interconnected islands with wonderful views across to Venice. St Mark’s Square is just five minutes away by vaporetto and Giudecca is one minute’s ride away from Zattere and the Accademia. It is a great place to relax and unwind or eat al fresco in one of the local fish restaurants. You can walk the whole length of the north coast of the island to the 19th century Stucky Flour Mill at the far end.

Visit the Santissimo Redentore Church

Considered to be the most successful of architect Palladio’s churches, it was built in thanks for Venice’s deliverance from the great plague which raged in 1575-6. The July Festival connects the church by a chain of boats to St Mark’s Square. The festival ends with a spectacular firework display.

The view across the Giudecca Canal to St Mark’s Basin and the Doge’s Palace has been a favourite view of artists for many years. Enjoy browsing the galleries and choose a watercolour or oil painting of the area as a beautiful reminder of your stay in Giudecca.

Lovely atmosphere with nice decorations and view stunning from living room windows. Really knew you were in Venice. Main drawback was lack of air conditioning unit for upstairs sleeping area as it was very hot at the end of July when we visited. Kitchen is a little basic but OK for short stay. Lots of great restaurants nearby. Host helpful and prompt for key handover.

Perfect in every way

The apartment was fabulous...even better than the photographs, especially the roof terrace which we were lucky enough to use every day. Guidecca is an amazing place to stay...you feel as if you are experiencing the "real" Venice with friendly shopkeepers, cute little Italian children playing in the streets and amazing views wherever you look. Try a cocktail at the Cipriani hotel...well worth the hefty price! Also the Hilton Sky bar is great to take in the amazing views of Venice main island. Lillian the owner is super helpful in every way, the next door neighbors are really lovely and even the cleaner is friendly. One of the best places we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in a lot of lovely places!! Thank you Lillian for making my 50th birthday extra special.
