This is a really lovely large apartment in the quiet village of Amato, It has beautiful views and you can see both coasts.
The village is really lovely, you can walk there in 5 minutes and it has a pharmacy, 2 small bars, one of them Mister Pizza a small supermarket which actually has most things you will need, and a bakery. The people here are really friendly and enjoy practising their English. Just 10 minutes down the hill is an agrotourismo, we sometimes find agrotourismos a little basic and sometimes only open at the weekend, not this one though, it is more like a restaurant, open daily except Monday for lunch and dinner. The owner and his wife serve a great menu of local dishes and are so friendly. We had great fun with the language differences and it was very reasonably priced too.
The pool at the apartment is one of the best we have had, kept beautifully clean by Emilio, and a great size. We have rented many apartments in this price range and I would say this is definitely one of the very best. The family Guzzo, Francesco, Maria and Emilio are treasures, my husband was unwell on our first day and they came straight round, happy to take us to the pharmacy and translate for us .It is very reassuring that they are on hand if needed and their bar in the next village sells the best pizza I have ever tasted.
The apartment is not far from lovely beaches and beautiful Tropea, which is an historic town ,nice for lunch, then an hour or two on the beach. We also drove on for 10 minutes to Capo Vaticano, a lovely peaceful beach. another beach is Pietragrande on the Catanzaro coast.
If you are looking for a very touristy place with masses of shops and restaurants then this is not the right place for you, but if you want to live amongst lovely Italian people in a quiet village but within striking distance of tourism then you will like it.The apartment is up a hillside which is a bit of a windy road, but it is not scary cliffhanger type roads, just gentle bends and very easy to get from the airport and to other places on the motorway.
The thing I will remember the most is the village and the friendly people.Yes we stuck out as we were the only English people there but it was great fun chatting to everyone, they know Lindsay, the owner and they know that you are renting what is probably the only holiday let in the village.
Finally, Lindsay is lovely , it was easy to book, she even kept the date for me whilst I waited for the flight to come down in price,
