  • Beautiful apartment at the top of Giglio Castello
    5 of 5

Tony and Ombretta’s apartment was the perfect place to stay and enjoy the best of this beautiful island. Everything in the apartment was spotless and well maintained, and the place has a great layout as well, with a huge lounge and very large bedrooms. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and the kitchen is fully stocked with all the equipment you might need to make family dinners. There were only 4 of us staying there so we were very comfortable, and it's apparently possible to transform the landing on the second floor to an extra bedroom as well. The apartment itself is situated inside Giglio Castello, the beautiful old own at the top of the island. It’s a great place to stay if you prefer cooler evenings and nights after a day on the beach, as the areas near the sea stay pretty warm even when the sun has gone down. The Castello has a maze of picturesque streets, local food and clothes stores, and plenty of delicious restaurants. We loved going to Da Maria's for seafood, and Il Trione di Meino for lovely appetizers and great pizza. It’s easy to park if you have a car (both paid and unpaid can be found around), but the bus is a great option to get to the different small towns and beaches (Porto, Cannelle, Campese, etc). Tony and Ombretta are the most amazing hosts, really kind and caring, and if you need anything they’re always happy to help. We’d most definitely recommend staying here and we know we’ll be back soon!

  • It is all about the view!!!

The community of homes at Cala Piccola is so beautiful. And having the Cafe at Hotel Torre is an added bonus. My 19 year old daughter and I stayed for 10 nights at Antonellas lovely apartment. The location of the apartment absolutely can not be beat. You have a direct view of Isola Giglio from the terrace. We spent every morning and evening sitting on this terrace, eating and reading and watching the boats pass by. Also, at night you can see the light house at the tip of Giglio. The apartment is compact but has everything you need. The kitchen is a tiny galley, but we turned out wonderful meals daily as it is efficient. There is a small bedroom that has bunk beds, as you walk in the door through the pretty garden. I am 5'9" and had plenty of room! The master bedroom is up the stairs in the turret and also has this wonderful view of Giglio and the sea. The pull out sofa bed in the living room is very comfortable. It became quite hot so we needed to turn on the Air conditioner. This unit is so great. It cooled the entire downstairs, including the kitchen, bathroom and bunkbeds room. There is a lovely breeze in the upstairs bedroom if you open both windows for cross ventilation, and a ceiling fan and rotating counter fan. The apartment was so clean and fresh when we arrived. You can tell that it is a beloved family retreat! There are 2 covered parking spaces dedicated to the apartment which is wonderful. We drove down to the parking lot for the beach every day as we didn't want to wait for the free bus. Beginning the end of June there is a parking attendant and it costs about 3 euros to park for the day, well worth the convenience! The beach club is wonderful. It has a snack bar and a really great restaurant. We had the best fish at this restaurant, and the staff is so nice and helpful. Go early to the beach as it gets crowded mid day, and weekends it is full of weekend families who own places in Cala Piccola. The sea is cold and beautiful here!!! There is no WiFi in the apartment and the beach WiFi was not working either, no surprise as it is down under a mountain. However, all you have to do is go to the cafe at the hotel and sit overlooking the most gorgeous views! Cala Piccola is a place to forget WiFi and the troubles of the world! Antonella is the best host. She responds so quickly and truly wants her guests to be happy and comfortable. You can't go wrong staying at her lovely place. And her handi man Luca is funny and very helpful!
