Make a holiday rental villa or accommodation in Genoa, Italy your home away from home

Genoa (or Genova as it is in Italian) is a province of Northern Italy on the Ligurian Coast. The province is known to have some of the finest medieval monuments in the whole of Europe, and whatever you end up doing for entertainment in Genoa; you will be surrounded by a charming medieval atmosphere. There is an undeniable historic and artistic heritage in Genoa which easily rivals the more famous Italian cities like Venice and Florence. Despite its delightful atmosphere, glorious surroundings and excellent coastline, Genoa accommodation is never subject to large tourist crowds meaning you can enjoy your holiday in peace.

Genoa; Things to do on holiday in Genoa, Italy

Genoa has a long naval history, with the provincial capital, Genoa, being one of the most important cities in Italy’s naval history. Throughout the province are a host of top class museums telling the story of Genoa, as well as many monuments dating back throughout the centuries. The city of Genoa is particularly valuable to tourists, packed with world class restaurants, informative and fun museums and a huge number of attractions, things to do and shopping streets.

The Genoa countryside is a maze of cycle paths and walking trails, both following the rugged coastline and into the hilly interior of the province. The Aveto Natural Regional Park which falls into the Province of Genoa covers some of the most beautiful parts of the Ligurian Apennines as well as three rocky valleys, perfect for hiking, cycling and nature sightings. The countryside of Genoa is very mountainous and unspoilt which provides the ideal habitat for many animals and birds. There are many magnificent natural parks in the area which provide endless entertainment in Genoa for those with a love of the great outdoors.

As word of the glorious coastline was leaked to the tourist industry, locals knew that things in Genoa would never be the same! The whole coastline consists of beautiful rocky coves where the mountains drop into the sea, with little sand beaches providing a perfect place to set down your towel, relax in the sun and have a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean.

The provincial capital of Genoa Province, Genoa, rivals any medieval city in the whole of Europe. Often missed by the tourist crowds, the city of Genoa is a beautiful place to take Genoa accommodation, far from the tourist hoards yet awash with medieval marvels which helped the city rise to become the European Capital of Culture for many years. The Sea and Navigational Museum down by the docks is one of the most popular things in Genoa to visit, although the delightful shopping streets which cross the new part of the town and the many charming churches (especially the simply stunning San Lorenzo Church) and monuments attract quite a crowd.

Liguria, Italy

From the little villages of the Cinque Terre to the romantic Portofino or the beautiful flowers of Sanremo, Liguria is a land of fascinating contrast.

Genova, its capitol, is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, and was a powerful coastal town until the 6th century A.D., and has the European biggest and oldest pedestrian centre. Liguria is well known for the food, pesto a basilicum sauce that you can eat only here, ravioli, troffie, and very good seafood.

We are very close to Tuscany and the French Riviera.

The Tigullio Gulf is very nice, it has a beautiful 18 hole golf course in Rapallo, there are many boat trip to Cinque Terre San Fruttuoso, Camogli.

Liguria is easy to reach, the closest international airports are Malpensa in Milano, Pisa andNice in France. Genova has an airport but is for national and inter-European flights.

I am sure that all tourists can enjoy this not so well known part of Italy.

Bruno is a very considerate and friendly host and the view from the terrace over the bay is beautiful. I like swimming at Lo Scalo and Scalo di Chiappa because the water is so clear; you can see the fish swimming around you. If you prefer the beach it is an easy walk to Bogliasco.

Kitchen, dining room and living room make up an open space with a large balcony to the sea side front with a wonderful view. The living room can be separated by sliding doors and used as a bedroom (using the sofa bed). In the back part of the apartment is the main bedroom, a second smaller bedroom with a bunk bed and the bathroom. Be aware that the staircase to the apartment is quite steep. Moreover it was under construction during our stay. The kitchen is well equipped with a dish washer and a full-fledged stove. When it comes to tableware and the like, the kitchen could need a bit more of equipment. It still seems to be in a building up process. We received several new things like bowls and cutlery during our stay. And it's really worth cooking for yourself there because there are so many shops nearby selling fruits, vegetables, ham, cheese, home made pasta and other delicious things. In general when it comes to the equipment, the apartment was well-appointed in some aspects (there was salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, cleansing material and the like) but there could be a bit more of several other things (e.g. more towels, sufficient toilet paper). The apartment is located in a very central part of the city: the boardwalk is on the front side and a pedestrian area with restaurants and bars on the back side. You can reach everything (bus stop, beach, train station etc.) within a few minutes of walking. Admittedly parking nearby is difficult. Because of the central location the apartment is not the most quiet place; but we had no problems to sleep at night. The only thing which was really annoying, were the "open air concerts" of some third-class crooners every two or three days nearby (lasting past midnight). In general it's a quite pleasing apartment which we can recommend.

Great sea views from the main room. Comfy beds. Excellent aircon in all the rooms. Riccardo was a fantastic host; sent us a guide to the area before we arrived, met us and gave us great restaurant, visit and most importantly ice cream parlour suggestions - of which there are 3 excellent ones just nearby, and even offered to drive us to the station at the end of our stay. The flat was really well equipped, with everything we needed, including dishwasher, washing machine, tv, netflix, etc. Lovely bathroom, with large shower and double basins. Two large bedrooms, one with a large double, the other with two singles, that could be pushed together. Really liked trips to Camoligi and San Frutossco Abbey from the boat, which goes from the quayside in front of the apartment. Also easy to get into Genoa by bus or train. Canoes can be hired from the quayside, which was good fun. Small, slightly rocky beach 5 mins walk away, with lovely clear water and lots of fish - bring a snorkel. Great bakeries, and restaurants with 5 mins walk. Also supermarkets and banks. Lovely walkway along the cliffs for a mile or so - Genova Nervi station about 10mins walk along the walkway - bit far to push a heavy case (as it turned out!) We're keen to come back, or ideally move in permanently!
