Make a holiday apartment in Gavinana-Galluzzo your home away from home

Gavinana and Galluzzo are two distinct suburbs of Florence with their own personalities and flavours. Gavinana is a trendy little neighbourhood to the east, along the banks of the River Arno, while Galluzzo to the south is a quiet residential area, just five kilometres from Florence’s historic downtown centre.  One of its most outstanding landmarks is the 14th-century Carthusian monastery.

HomeAway has a great collection of holiday apartments in Gavinana-Galluzza that offer the best of all possible worlds: proximity to the centre to be able to enjoy the historic sights with ease, yet comfortable, affordable bases situated in lovely surroundings. What’s more, many of these holiday rentals come with creature comforts such as air conditioning, dishwashers, parking and internet access.  Some apartments are housed inside old villas, from which visitors can enjoy their private gardens and swimming pools, but most  Gavinana-Galluzzo holiday villas benefit from their own outdoor private spaces.  If visitors would prefer to stay in the centre of Florence, HomeAway also has a collection of affordable holiday homes in its Historic Centre.

Things to do

-Historic monuments: Galluzzo’s Carthusian monastery dates back to the 14th century, and in addition to its well-preserved architecture, boasts a number of frescoes by Pontormo.  He was an Italian painter born in 1494 also known as Jacopo Carucci. The monastery houses the Church of St. Laurence with a bell tower from the 19th century.

-Food and drink: Both suburbs enjoy a good selection of restaurants, Gavinana in particular. The neighbourhood has a number of bars and good coffee spots with freshly baked Italian pastries. There are also many pizzerias and trattorias dotted around the place.  Some feature views of the river, making a pizza all the more enjoyable!

-Shopping: Many tourists with holiday apartments in Gavinana-Galluzzo like to explore the shops and browse for souvenirs and bargains.  While the centre of Florence is the shopping destination of choice for many, both of these suburbs have a small number of stores and independent boutiques.

-Outdoors: The outskirts of Florence are within an hour’s driving distance of the nearby hills and countryside with their hillside villages and vineyards. There are plenty of hiking opportunities in some of these areas and the views attract visitors year-round.

Fantastic property, felt like a home away from home!!!

We planned a trip to Florence as a family to celebrate a 60th birthday! Rosaria & Luca were at the apartment to greet us but more over they helped show us around the local neighbourhood for all our essentials! The apartment is fully furnished and cosy and so conveniently located - shops nearby, fanastic local restaurants and the city centre is a 10 min bus ride! Would 100% recommend it to anyone who wants a luxury stay away from the crowded city centre and enjoy true Firenze! Thank you Rosaria & Luca for making our trip so memorable! Grazie!!!!!

Charming villa in a fantastic location

5 of 5
Villa Berni is as described just outside Florence with a stunning view of the city from the Tower Bedroom. The garden is lovely to relax in during the day and the whole setting is wonderfully peaceful and rural. The pool whilst not large is great for a cooling dip after a hot day seeing the sights in Florence. We were a party of 4 couples, my wife and I and our 3 grown up children with their partners. The villa was plenty spacious enough, we could easily have catered for more! We hired a car in Pisa and drove over to the villa; I would say a car is essential as the supermarket is a few kms down the hill so lugging heavy shopping back up the hill in relatively high temperatures would not have worked for us, without a car. However as there were 8 of us arriving at different times, we also made use of Marco Berni's minibus service. He was great, taking us almost up to the door of the leaning tower of Pisa, also to Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and my favourite of all, a wine-tasting at Castello di Verrazzano. He was very interesting to talk to about Tuscan life and very patient on the night we ended up waiting for him in the wrong square in Florence! Again as described the bus service into Florence from the bottom of the hill is reliable and the youngsters used that as a means of doing their own thing in the city. We also experienced the wonderful Tuscan cooking of Mina, Marco's mother, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. It was delicious! We also had a Sicilian meal prepared for us which was also quite a treat. Any downsides....only the mosquitoes, so have some insect repellent handy; otherwise I would heartily recommend this villa as we had a marvellous holiday there.

Living comfortably under the Tuscan Sun

5 of 5
Very large charming old house at the end of a cul de sac. Perfect for the 7 of us. The kids loved the above ground swimming pool. Beautiful views of the country side including the Chartreuse.Ideal base for day trips to explore the city of Florence, Pisa,Sienna etc. Best choice if you have a car but a bus stop is close by if you do not. Great welcome by Lucia and Gilberto.Loved the welcoming bottle of Chianti which made us decide to spend a whole day driving the nearby Chianti Wine road all the way to Greve! The only suggestion we have to improve our stay would be to update the living room furniture or reupholster the sofas and arm chairs there,
