Make a holiday rental home or villa in Fivizzano, Italy your home away from home

Fivizzano, known as the ‘Florence of the North’, is a walled city located in the province of Massa-Carrara, in Tuscany, Italy, which extends from the Appenines to the Apuan Alps. Tourists flock to this historic city throughout the year to see its many fine monuments, and the beauty of the surrounding Tuscan landscapes.

Visiting Fivizzano gives you the opportunity to stay in a wide range of accommodation, with luxury villas, country cottages and spacious farmhouses all available. Many of these properties have been restored and refurbished, but retain their original character and fantastic locations.

Things to do in Fivizzano, Italy

There are several points of interest in Fivizzano, including the Orto Botanico dei Frignoli – a botanical garden and nature reserve, the Fivizzano Museum of Printing, and the famous city walls, which were built in the middle of the 16th Century. The many castles, churches and noble palaces of the city demonstrate the importance that Fivizzano has held over the years.

The city has a respectable selection of restaurants and bars, though many people prefer to relax outside their holiday accommodation with a glass of local wine, taking in the atmosphere and enjoying the sunshine.

The surrounding landscape offers visitors great opportunity for walking and climbing in the hills, admiring the spectacular views of valleys, olive groves and spectacular scenery as they go.

If you time your visit to Fivizzano correctly, you may arrive during one of the annual festivals. These include the September ‘Tangoworld’ festival – the largest Tango festival outside of Argentina, and the ‘Challenge of the Ground Archers and the Court Archers’ a historical archery contest which takes in the Piazza Medicea every July.

Places to visit on holiday in Fivizzano, Italy

Fivizzano has many outlying villages worth visiting, including Gragnola, Sassalbo, Monze and Vinca – all of which boast wonderful, mountainous landscapes and individual character. These are ideal if you wish to get of the tourist track and experience traditional Tuscan life.

The city is also located within 40km of the beach, and the journey south-west through the hills towards the coast is an enjoyable one.

Weather in Fivizzano, Italy

The climate in Fivizzano is ideal for visitors, especially in the summer months, when temperatures average around 27°C, making it ideal for enjoying the outdoors. Winters are mild, and temperatures rarely drop below 8°C during the daytimes. Rainfall is also relatively low for most of the year, though more common towards the end of the year.

Flights to Fivizzano, Italy

Probably the best option for getting to Fivizzano is to fly to Galileo Galilei Airport, Pisa (PSA), and then make the remaining 90-minute journey by public transport or car. A second option is to fly to Genova Airport (GOA). Pisa is the more popular option as some budget airlines fly there from the UK, and it is nearer to Fivizzano.

Lovely villa, furnished and equipped to a very high standard in a lovely, peaceful location

5 of 5
This villa is beautiful. It is in a lovely location which is very peaceful and secluded. We loved the outdoor area with the swimming pool, hot tub and outdoor kitchen. We had great fun with the pizza oven and enjoyed eating in the different areas provided. It was also fun watching the family of wild boar that visited every evening! The villa is equipped to a very high standard and was very clean when we arrived. There wasn't anything missing that we felt we needed. We came here to celebrate our joint 60th birthdays with our children and their partners. Everyone came away saying that it was one of the best holidays that we'd had and the memories would last forever

A house with an amazing view and very peacefull.

5 of 5
If you are looking for peace and quit in a beautifull environment, than this house is ideal. The owners are very helpful and daughter Sylvia knows English what is always helpful if your Italian doesn't go much further than "bon jorno" The distance to the nearest bigger towns (Lucca, Pisa) shouldn't be underestimated, but still feasible for a daytrip. The cycling is heavier then expected with quite challenging climbs. Tip: the bakery in Carregine (10 minutes drive) offers baguettes even better than in France and you should try the salty Manninna. We will return to this beautiful place.
