Make a holiday apartment in Fermo your home away from home

Whether you’re searching for a villa or apartment in Fermo, HomeAway has a great range of accommodation to browse. Fermo is a charming town with a spectacular cathedral and lots of preserved historic buildings surrounding old piazzas – the old-town is also moments from the Adriatic and its many beaches. Holiday villas in Fermo are old stone buildings, with wooden beams, authentic flourishes and large gardens in stunning countryside. Despite the rustic flavour Fermo apartments are still furnished with modern conveniences like Internet, and many even offer the luxury of private pools.

Things to do

-Beach. A brief drive or bus ride from the centre of Fermo is Lido di Fermo, home to the best beach in the area. It’s an unspoiled stretch of coarse sand equipped with sunbeds and offering a variety of beachfront activities like volleyball. Another choice is the Blue Flag Porto San Giorgio, which is also a good place to visit for its wonderful seafood restaurants.

-Town. Fermo is a classic example of a hilltown in Le Marche, boasting magnificent architecture thanks to its wealth and importance in centuries gone by. The Duomo di Fermo is an impressive cathedral that can be scaled for knockout views of the coast and surrounding countryside. Ancient history can be found in the form of the Piscine Romane, a cistern with 30 chambers dating back 2,000 years.

-Cuisine. On the coast the big speciality is Brodetto, a soup made with as many as 13 kinds of fish. Spaghetti with clams or other seafood varieties is also popular here. Inland the cuisine is more rustic and meat-based, with cold meat products like ciauscolo, a soft salami, and lanza, cured pork. Truffles are an important rural product and can be found in many dishes.

-Day trips. Le Marche is a region of idyllic undulating countryside, clad with farms and vineyards and dotted with preserved old towns boasting renaissance art and ancient remnants. For a beautiful town with unforgettable mountain views you could head to Cingoli, which has some stunning buildings from the 1500s. Inside the library here is a collection of paintings by famed Renaissance artist Lorenzo Lotto.

-Cycling. Thanks to the immense beauty of its scenery and the profusion of quiet rural roads, Le Marche is a great destination for cyclists. There are on-road and off-road trails crisscrossing the region, devised to help cyclists experience some of the lesser-known highlights. There’s also a coastal route offering an adventure next to the pristine beaches and picturesque resorts on the Adriatic.

Weather in Fermo

Fermo gets a Mediterranean climate, although winters can be a little cooler here than in many destinations in this part of the world because of the influence of the Apenine’s to the west. Summers though are invariably warm and sunny. Daily temperatures get above 25 degrees for at least four months of the year, and rainfall is scarce, especially in June and July. Spring and autumn conditions are moderate, with highs in the teens. Winters are also quite mild, but there are isolated cold periods, when temperatures can sink below freezing at night.

Travel to Fermo

Fermo is just over half an hour to the south of the nearest airport, Ancona Falconara (AOI). This destination has links to the UK with low-cost airlines, and also connects with other cities in Italy and neighbouring countries. The airport is a simple drive along the coastal A14 autostrada. Fermo is also on the Adriatic Railway, which runs for almost the length of Italy’s east coast. This makes it simple to visit the various resorts and towns on Le Marche’s Adriatic coast if you don’t have a car.

Italian treasure

5 of 5
If you haven’t found Le Marche or indeed this holiday apartment then you are really missing out. With it’s picturesque hilltop villages, panoramic views and delicious food, this undiscovered are of Italy is waiting to be found. We could not have had a better holiday. The fully equipped and clean apartment looks over a beautifully kept garden and has views to die for. Breakfast each morning sat on the balcony set us up everyday. Joe & Carolyn have made many suggestions of places to go and visit and eat with the area. It’s just a matter of picking something different as the mood takes you. And if that isn’t enough you could always chill in the pool with beautiful views over the surrounding mountains. There is nothing negative to say about it. We will be returning, hopefully soon to this Italian treasure.

Simply enchanting!

5 of 5
We were very taken with everything about our stay in Petritoli. The house, town, surrounding area, the local people and, of course, our hosts Margitta and Reinhold. The centrally located house has fantastic views of the local landscape from each balcony and the roof terrace. It is spotlessly clean, comfortable and has been thoughtfully furnished. The kitchen/dining area is well equipped and the cosy living room has a sofa for relaxing and reading. The bedrooms are spacious, with comfortable beds and ample storage. The bathrooms/showers are well fitted and maintained. We found the town and it's people a real delight. Margitta kindly booked restaurants for us, gave us lots of recommendations of places to visit and even made sure we knew about the town guided tour conducted by the local tourist office (which was fantastic). We particularly enjoyed the restaurant Re Squarchio by the three arches and also Antico Bar Comunale for coffee and pastries. Parking by Torre Civica was no problem and is only a minute's walk from the house. The town is well located to visit Ripatransone, San Benedetto del Tronto, Grottamare, Porto San Giorgio, Macerata and Ascoli Piceno as well as Lago di Fiastra and the Sibillini Mountains. We would love to return to Petritoli and would certainly like to stay at the house again.
