Great seaview and barbecue deep in quiet nature

5 of 5
Group of 6 adults (3 couples) living in a large crowded town, looking for a paceful, lonely and natural place. Due to its position and its laypout this house was our choice. Position is perfect, a corner of paradise fixed over time, an ancient farmer site with few houses scattered on a sweet wooden hill in front of the sea. No car passage, no noisy neighbors, just birds singing for us all day long. The accomodation, Casa Sant’Anna, was great: we choosed to rent its dependance too, a lovely double bedroom with its own bathroom and shower just behind the house, separated entrance but part of the same complex. This way we had three double bedrooms and three bathrooms, just perfect. The kitchen is functional, fully equipped and everything (dishes, glasses, seats, cockery, pots) is plenty. The house itself is nice and well mantained. In the two weeks of our stay we had long charming trekking through paths around the house (the Owner told us that until the 60s ther was no road deserving the area so everybody moved on foot through ancient paths) discovedring lot of lonely beautiful beaches as La Cala (the main beach behind the houses), Ripa Barata (quiet long walk but it’s worth), La Fontina (there is no beach, just flat rocks. We also explored the coast with kayaks (rented in Sant’Andrea from Daniele) and it was a great experience. When home we spent all our time in the comfortable lateral terrace, both restind and having meals. Despite to magnificent seaview what I personally loved most was the large stone barbecue where I cooked and grilled meat and fish quiet every night, using real wood: for a BBQ enthusiast as I am it was the best. Finally everybody was satisfied: we had sea, mountains, woods, history, outdoor living, charming sunshines and spectacular food. We will definitely be back next year. Martin & friends Berlin

Island Retreat

4 of 5
We had a great week in this lovely apartment at the far north west of Elba. Sebastiano and Lorenzo very helpful with SMS and emails so everything went smoothly. We loved sitting on the terrace enjoying the fabulous view, watching the swallows. The property has a sturdy, well-built feel. Here are a couple of points which others might find helpful. - it is quite remote; there is a (superb!) restaurant on the main road where we ate most nights, and a lovely little bar on the beach at Patresi but the nearest shop is 30 mins on foot, in Zanca. We wanted to avoid the hassle of car hire and depended on the bus network, which might not have been such a clever move. The larger towns are an hour away by bus, and no quicker by car because the roads are scary zig-zags with vertiginous drops into the sea! - there's no air conditioning, and it was blisteringly hot when we came, unusually so for June, we were told. - the flat is a little sparse. You expect ot provide your own food, of course, but most places we've stayed have things like salt, pepper, washing-up liquid. Some tourist info would also be good, a few maps, some history of the island etc etc. There is Wifi and satellite, but I haven't seen a TV like that since I was a student! But you don't come to Elba to watch telly.
