Make a holiday rental home or apartment in Deiva Marina, Italy your home away from home

The fishing port of Deiva Marina is a small but perfectly formed example of a beautiful Ligurian village. You will not find busy bars and shopping malls in this rural part of Italy, but if you are looking to get away from the trappings of modern living and enjoy a relaxing countryside break, a holiday Deiva Marina may well be the order of the day. The village lies between the popular tourist town of Portofino and the villages of the Cinque Terra, offering the perfect position from which to explore the region.

Things to do in Deiva Marina, Italy

Strictly speaking Deiva Marina is a town, but with only a little over 1,000 permanent residents and a homely feel to it, it retains its friendly village feel - and with just a couple of kilometres separating the countryside from the sea, Deiva Marina holiday accommodation could not be better positioned either.

The coastal position of the resort is ideal for water sports activities such as water skiing, windsurfing and sailing, but if all this sounds too energetic for you, you can simply relax with the beverage of your choice and enjoy the excellent views out to sea. The waterfront is also the place to being during balmy summer evenings, when you can follow an enjoyable meal in one of the villages’ restaurants with a stroll around the scenic bay area.

An interesting option in Deiva Marina is to enjoy a boat trip, with several destinations on offer from the small harbour. A popular excursion takes participants eastwards along the coast to the heart of the Cinque Terra region – a beautiful and unspoilt part of the region that does not always get the recognition it deserves it terms of tourist numbers – but other’s loss is your gain.

Places to visit on holiday in Deiva Marina, Italy

The beautiful old city of Genoa, parts of which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an hour away from Deiva Marina by car and the most popular day trip destination for visitors to the village. Deiva Marina apartments can also be used as a base for visiting other towns and villages of the La Spezia province, with the nearest town being Levanto, 24km to the south-east. La Spezia itself is just 52km away and can be reached in 45 minutes on a good day.

Weather in Deiva Marina, Italy

A holiday in Deiva Marina can be enjoyed at almost any time of the year. The Mediterranean climate means that summer is the hottest season, but with mild winters and a pleasant spring and summer there are plenty of feasible months in which to visit. If you are intent on avoiding rainfall your best bet is to visit during the busiest month of the year – July.

Flights to Deiva Marina, Italy

Your chosen Deiva Marina accommodation can be reached in a number of ways from Great Britain, but perhaps the easiest method is to fly to Genoa Airport (GOA, 58km), then pick up a pre-booked hire car on arrival in order to get you to your holiday villa or apartment. British Airways and Ryanair both fly to Genoa, from London Gatwick and London Stansted respectively.

A month on a hill

5 of 5
Arrived at 2.30am up a dirt track 3/4 the way up a hill, a few lights on around the villa.... It looked nice but we were very tired .. As we were about 8 hours early after our drive from north Yorks we decided to have a little nap.... Whilst walking the dogs we were greeted by an elderly man asking ..in Italian.. What we wanted... When we told him that we were the couple and two dogs that had booked the villa for a month he quickly parked his car and opened the gates to the villa... He showed us around the place explaining where everything was inc the heating...lol He was very pleasant and gestured to let him know if there was anything else he could do for us.... We got unloaded and had a quick look around outside on the terrace and gardens... The views are wonderful ! The villa is set high up a hill over looking the village of castiglione chiavarese of which you have a great view, and of the valley too...we were very impressed... The terrace was very large and even though it was November we managed a few days sunbathing on it ! We did not get chance to use the pool but there is one with fantastic views. The villa itself is neatly set out with a double and a twin, the double being è suite. The village is about 30 mins walk or a 5min drive down a twisting steep hill... It's a great place for a tranquil stay, read a few books and relax which is exactly what we booked it for... We used it has a base to visit Pisa Lucca Florence and Sestri Levante amongst other smaller places..... Access to the motorways is about 15mins and the shops less than 10.. It was great for us as we went to relax but some may find it a little too quiet...and remote.... The owner, Chiara was very accommodating bringing the wifi dongle around on the first day and explaining where to get all the essentials etc..even bringing water around when some essential works were being done on the supply feed..... We would definitely stay again if we were in the region. We saw the elderly gentleman quite a bit.... It was chiaras father..Giorgio he tended his garden nearly every day so we exchanged pleasantries regularly... They are wonderful hosts... Even giving us some of their own olive oil, tomatoes and some limoncello! .and we made them a Leporati Lasagne !.. All in all we had a great time..theres only a couple things are the kitchen is small...I am a chef and not a small one lol ..and no English speaking channels on the tv for those rainy nights....many thanks to Chiara and Giorgio.

Good location for town, beach and walking into the mountains

4 of 5
I stayed at the flat with my daughter - so it was important that we felt secure. It was an ideal location in the sense that it was near everything - 5 mins to a lovely nearby beach, 5 minutes to the beautiful town, and we discovered that if you walked up the hill, you could explore other tiny villages, a michelin starred restaurant and the mountains - plus the next cove along. Nice views and Moneglia is a great base for the cinque terre which can get very busy. We loved Vernazza. We didn't have a car - so this was a real bonus. It does mean the train is very PRESENT throughout the area! But we did get used to it. The lovely Elena picked us up from the station and we went to the beach as she prepared the flat - so we felt well looked after. My only thoughts are that the bedroom could do with a fan, and that if you're into minimalism or white interiors, it isn't the flat for you. It is very much of its time, which I would guess is 60's/70's - perhaps older. We rather liked this! Nice outdoor space.
