Winter break in rural period home

4 of 5
We chose Villa Sirgole on the strength of it's period character and were not disappointed. This is a house that may not have all the mod cons but is full of family history and clearly remains a much valued family home. It is surrounded by arable farmland and enjoys a mature leafy garden at the front (including palm trees and kiwi plants) and adjacent vineyard and citrus grove within the grounds. The rooms are very lofty and spacious and although we were there during an untypically cold winter, the central heating proved more than adequate for the task. Our family holidays include lots of communal cooking and the large kitchen with its enormous wood burning fireplace provided a suitably utilitarian but cosy setting for our culinary efforts. Our two adult sons particularly appreciated the excellent wifi. Although we didn't meet Isabella in person she was faultless in keeping in touch, providing us with directions, updates and suggestions for places to visit and sources of produce etc., as well as checking on our well being. We were met by the family governess who was extremely friendly and charming. Indeed we were struck by just how friendly and helpful people were. Salento has lots to offer and although the house enjoys a rural setting there are many historic towns peppered over the region and only a short drive away. Local produce is second to none and very affordable, including lots of dishes and delicacies particular to the region. We particularly enjoyed the coastal walks the region has to offer and invariably treated ourselves to one of the fabulously addictive local pastries as an end of walk reward. We had a lovely time - thanks Isabella.

A Truly Fabulous Apartment

5 of 5
The photographs do not really do the apartment justice. We were welcomed out of the private lift by Marco and Stefania who were extremely pleasant and helpful. The apartment was spotless, well equipped and beautifully furnished. However it is the outside space which is the most spectacular and bigger than it appears in the photographs with many seating options all around. The outside furniture is of a very high standard - no plastic chairs here. We found the apartment perfectly located for us, being in between the beach bars on one side and the town on the other. We tried two very good neighbourhood restaurants and there is a well stocked nearby supermarket. We would not hesitate to recommend it and hope to return there soon.
