Make a holiday apartment in Costa Degli Etruschi your home away from home

Costa Degli Etruschi is a beautiful stretch of the Tuscan coastline comprising the shoreline of the province of Livorno and taking in such towns as Piombino and San Vincenzo. The area is renowned for its mild climate and the cleanliness of the sea. Costa Degli Etruschi is so called because of the numerous Etruscan burial sites uncovered by archaeologists. Flanking the sea is an undulating hinterland of hills, nature parks and attractive small villages.

HomeAway has a large number of holiday apartments in Costa Degli Etruschi that are perfectly suited to couples and small families. They are furnished to a very high standard, as are Costa Degli Etruschi holiday villas, which offer space and privacy for all sizes of parties. Some of these spacious houses also come with luxury amenities such as swimming pools, private gardens and grounds.

Things to do

-Beaches: The Etruscan coast features miles of long, rocky sections alternating with fine, sandy beaches. Buca delle Fate, Cala Moresca beach and Spiaggia Lunga are beautiful unspoilt places. Sailing, scuba diving and surfing clubs operate at some of the beaches including at Quercianella, a resort to the south of Livorno. The exceptional water quality and services provided by some of the coastal resorts have been recognised with the European Union's Blue Flag status.

-Historic monuments: The archaeological park of Baratti and Populonia encompasses more than 80 hectares of marked walking trails that lead to archaeological sites, underground mines and areas from the ancient Etruscan city of Populonia. They include San Cerbone necropolis, housing tombs from the 7th-6th century BC, Populania's medieval fortress and a museum with Roman and Etruscan artefacts. History can be discovered elsewhere in the medieval towns of Castagneto Carducci, Suvereto and Campiglia Marittima. History fans will also appreciate the ancient sites of Piombino, where visitors will find further holiday rentals available.

-Wildlife and nature: Costa Degli Etruschi is rich with parks, pine forests and woods that can be toured and surveyed. The Forestry Park of Poggio Neri is an extensive hill forest with trails for hiking and horseback riding, while the Coastal Park of Sterpaia has ten kilometres of coastline that encompasses agricultural areas and dunes.

-Museums: The area's museums offer the visitor with a holiday apartment in Costa Degli Etruschi insights into its art and history. The Museum of Giovanni Fattori in Livorno features a collection of art from Livorno and Tuscany. The Diego Martelli Centre of Art in Pasquini Castle in Castiglioncello offers guided walks to where famous artists used to come to paint parks, bays and other sites in the area. Thousands of years of history can be glimpsed at the Archaeology Museum of Palazzo Pretorio in Campiglia Marittima.

A lovely comfortable house in a quiet location

4 of 5
We stayed for a wonderful week in the Casa de Alan and we can recommend highly both the house and Campiglia. The house is very comfortable, nicely decorated and in an ideal location for restaurants, bars and grocery shopping. The kitchen is well equipped and while we chose not to cook there is everything in the kitchen required for cooking. The terrace is a real bonus. The house is private and the area quiet. Shops, restaurants and bars are within a short walking distance. The town is delightful with narrow streets and a good choice of restaurants to cover all prices. Campiglia is an ideal location from which to tour inland and the coast. The arrangements for our arrival and departure worked extremely well.
