Make a holiday rental home or villa in Collazzone, Italy your home away from home

Collazzone lies 25km south of Perugia, in the heart of the Umbria region. The region is famous for its roaming hills, and the commune of Collazzone is partially hidden on a ridge, meaning it is largely undiscovered by tourists and does not suffer from the many problems that mass tourism can bring. Its location also means that visitors to Collazzone will be treated to some of the finest scenery in the region, with pine forests, olive groves and small hamlets to be discovered when taking in the excellent nature walks around the town.

Things to do in Collazzone, Italy

The main monument within the town centre is the 19th Century Parish Church of San Lorenzo, which is remarkably large in size for such a small town. Also well worth a visit is the 15th Century Oratory of San Michele, the 17th Century monastery and the Town Hall, and an enjoyable day or two can be spent simply exploring the town, stopping off every now and then for a coffee or ice cream, depending on the weather.

Being an Italian commune, Collazzone includes a number of smaller villages and hamlets within its territory, known as frazzone. These make for excellent touring, and can either be explored over 2-3 days by car, or visited individually on foot or by bicycle, as they are all within a few kilometres of Collazzone. These frazzone are: Teveraccio, Piedicolle, Collapepe, Casalalta, Gaglietole, Assignano and Canalicchio.

The nearby woodlands offer a number of recently-developed nature trails, which also connect the main sites of interest and offer a great way to explore the area. Traversing these by foot or bicycle will allow you to take in the glorious Umbrian countryside as you go, and it is even possible to enjoy the trails by horseback. The longest of the trails covers over 16km, and can easily fill a whole day if you include a picnic along the way.

Places to visit on holiday in Collazzone, Italy

As well as the surrounding frazzone, there are many nearby places to visit when staying in Collazzone. The town of Todi (20km south) is the main draw for visitors, with many tourist attractions to cater to all tastes. Also consider a day trip to the walled town of Massa Martana (21km south-east), which boasts some of Umbria's finest Renaissance churches.

Weather in Collazzone, Italy

Spring and summer are regarded as the best times in which to visit Collazzone and the surrounding Umbria region, as the average daily temperature is usually between 20C and 30C during this period, with many hours of sunshine every day. Autumn and winter are cooler, but a perfectly enjoyable holiday in Collazzone can still be enjoyed during these seasons.

Flights to Collazzone, Italy

Holiday accommodation in Collazzone is easy to reach, as it is just 23km from San Egidio Airport (PEG) in Perugia. A Ryanair flight from London Stansted is the only service that flies direct from the UK to this destination, however – so book well in advance to make sure of your seats and to get the cheapest prices.

Get away in the Umbrian hills

5 of 5
The house is beautiful and full of character. The view from the terrace is spectacular, on a clear day you can see Lago Trasemeno. The place is clean, tidy and decorated nicely, and the owners are very accommodating. The area with local towns of montegabione and Citta della pieve is very typical of the region with authentic rural charm and friendly people, and of course the cuisine. Perugia is not too far away either with it's warren of medieval streets and old buildings. A great base for further travel in the region, we will surely return for another stay.

Italy in October

4 of 5
We had not stayed in this part of Italy before but received a warm welcome and had a fantastic stay Trevi is a delightful small hill town. We arrived in the middle of their annual celebration of the celery crop. Had not appreciated that there were so many ways to eat celery but all great fun The apartment has wonderful views of the town which is a short walk up a steepish hill The mountain scenery half an hours drive to the south east is breathtaking. Bevangna a few miles to the west is a perfect little town with an excellent fish restaurant

Absolutely lovely

5 of 5
We have just returned from a week's holiday at this wonderful property. We were given a very warm welcome from our hosts, Carla and Franco, including a delicious Lasagne, to save us cooking a meal on our first evening. The property if beautiful. Driving off the road and down a track, the house sits in extensive gardens. They were still very pretty, even though we'd missed the best of Carla's many roses. The views go on and on, with the nearest house being about a quarter of a mile away, so the seclusion and privacy adds to the peace and quiet of this lovely holiday home. Carla and Franco departed the next morning and we were trusted to be the keepers of their property for our week's stay. The annex is very homely and comfortable, with everything you could need. Beautifully renovated, we have had a really relaxing time, and would love to return when the weather is a little warmer, so we could enjoy the gardens more than we were able on this occasion. Our hosts returned to wave us goodbye, and we enjoyed a morning coffee in their lovely farmhouse kitchen with them, and the lovely lady who looks after the annex, before we left. Wonderful hosts, a truly idyllic location, and a perfect holiday home. Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday.
