Things to do on holiday to Cisternino, Italy

There are few places where you can truly enjoy slowly wandering the streets taking in the scenery, but Cisternino is clearly one of them. Voted among the top 15 prettiest villages in Italy, Cisternino’s beauty can be found as soon as you enter the huge town gates. The whitewashed houses are given a splash of colour with the colourful flowers which adorn the balconies, little courtyards and open stairwells that give Cisternino villas their iconic form. There are still some excellent relics from eras past in Cisternino including the Renaissance Bishop’s Palace and the 14th Century Church of St Nicholas, both of which are still adorned with masterpieces of art and sculpture. The tower of the Palazzo Amati and the crypt of St Nicola di Barion are also worth investigating.

The quaint squares and covered courtyards of Cisternino hide a wealth of cafes, restaurants and bars, which fill the air with mouth watering aromas, which can only be topped by the taste of Puglia’s finest delicacies. The cuisine of Puglia is absolutely magnificent, and from a Cisternino villa, you can sample the absolute best of the district. The local wines offer a perfect accompaniment, and you will undoubtedly need a fair amount during your stay in a self catering Cisternino villa, mainly as you will want to take as much as possible home with you!

The countryside which surrounds the village is perfect for walking, cycling and horse riding in the sun. There are many miles of tracks throughout the lush green plains of Puglia that you could travel for many days and never see the same part of the land twice. Much of the land you will see is covered in vineyards, and for the budding connoisseur, local owners offer tours and wine tasting sessions to many visitors.

                                Puglia Paradise

                                5 of 5
Staying in this beautiful trullo was such a treat for our family of four (including two hard-to-please teens). So often in Italy you arrive to find the accommodation you carefully searched for on the internet is nothing like the photos and not up to the standard described, but Trullo Tramonti is an absolute DREAM: well-designed, tastefully decorated, well appointed and immaculately clean. The pool was a Godsend - so much so we were reluctant to leave it even to get provisions from the nearby mini-market (great coffee and deli/lunch stuff, btw). The location is perfect - peaceful and secluded, surrounded by olive and fruit trees, looking out toward the white hill towns. We really appreciated the food and wine to welcome us on arrival. Caretakers Sarah and Nick were great - very responsive when a couple of minor things popped up, as was the owner who provided us with some great tips on where to eat locally etc. I would go back tomorrow if I could!

Perfect holiday in the Puglian Countryside

                                5 of 5
Beautiful pool area like a 5* resort. We had a fantastic week in the Trulli..Thank you. Highlights were enjoying the outside pool area and eating our evening meals on the long table under the canopy as we were blessed with near perfect weather. The dog and cat visitors were charming and enhanced the atmosphere! Any questions or problems were quickly answered and dealt with by the neighbouring housekeepers and we were impressed and thankful that Paolo worked into the evening in fact until10pm to repair a problem with the boiler. WiFi was effective. Beds were massive and comfortable. Highly recommended. Thank you again.
