The apartment is lovely and spacious; the kitchen is well equipped and the roof terrace offers sunshine in privacy, as well as stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The beds are reasonably comfortable, and the air-conditioning was a life-saver, as there were no mosquito nets on any of the windows so we had to keep the windows shut. (Even mid-October there were still plenty of mosquitos around!)
Unfortunately the bikes that belong to the apartment were too small for us, and it was too far to walk even to the nearest supermarket and back, never mind the town centre. A taxi was between €15-20 each way, so we decided to hire a car, which improved our stay considerably. The nicest part of the beach, with beautiful rocks for snorkelling, and bars and lidos still open mid-October, was right at the other side of town (about 5km away.) The beautiful beaches of San Nicola Arcella were easily accessible by car, but would have been too far (and the area too hilly!) to attempt by bike.
The most direct road to the quieter end of the beach was closed off for roadworks, but perhaps by summer 2018 that might be an easier way to get to a beach.
As far as car hire goes, we recommend a chain called Movers, with a branch in Diamante (2 stops further South on the train). Half the price of the more familiar brands and an excellent little car.
The apartment itself felt slightly neglected; both toilet seats were wobbly, the tap in the kitchen was loose, and the place had not been cleaned properly after the previous occupants - crisp crumbs left in bowls inside a cupboard, sugar crumbs on the kitchen top and sticky patches on the floor, and, inevitably, tiny ants crawling around. A thorough clean quickly remedied the ant infestation and made the kitchen a joy to use.
Italy has an excellent waste collection & recycling system, but the property manager just told us to put all rubbish in small bags and dump them in the general waste bins by the supermarket, rather than explaining what was being collected which days; and no special recycling bags were provided. Only when packing up at the end of our stay did I happen to find a leaflet explaining the recycling (in Italian.)
Apart from these few little niggles we had a very enjoyable stay here.
