When we say amazing location this is because it is literally facing Mt Etna surrounded by stunning views. If you want a central location with lots around you then this is not suitable but if you want to stay somewhere quiet in a beautiful setting then it doesn't get any better than this!! There are 3 or 4 local towns which we visited all within 15./20 minute drive and these were all lovely. The supermarket is around 20 minutes away. You must hire a car if you are staying here. What really made our stay amazing was the Villa managers Luciano and Antoinella, they were fantastic! They dealt with any questions we had, they drove us around in the evenings and sometimes during the day, they bought us items that we asked for, they were absolutely amazing and made the trip very special for us. They are on call 24 hours a day. I would say if no one in your party speaks Italian fluently then make sure you bring a translating Italian book or something as everyone's English is very very limited. Luckily for us one of our party was Italian so she did all the talking. The villa managers organised babysitting for us on 4 evenings, the babysitter actually did speak English and was lovely. We had the Private Chef one night and all we could say was WOW, one the tastiest meals we have ever had, so much so we booked the chef again for our last night. We were very happy to experience Villa Baroni.

                                                                      Great holiday home

                                                                      5 of 5
We stayed here for a week in August. There were only two of us so we had plenty of space. Six might struggle a bit as there is only one bathroom. The house is situated in its own vineyard just off a main road. It is on two floors with two bedrooms on the ground floor, a bathroom halfway up the stairs and a living area and kitchen upstairs. There are several outdoor sitting areas at different levels so plenty of choice. There are a lot of steps so you do need to be mobile. The house is generally very well equipped but we would have liked some sort of oven (either a small electric or gas one or a microwave). A short distance away is the Antica Cavalleria agriturismo where you can use all the facilities free of charge. We ate there three evenings. The food is simple but good, all prepared by the delightful Maria. We arrived on a Sunday and asked if we could eat. They served us a full meal and only later did we realise they do not normally cook on Sunday evenings! We attended a limoncello workshop and a Sicilian buffet meal - both very enjoyable. The house is looked after by Cristian who is very helpful and whose girlfriend makes limoncello which you can buy in the house. The position of the house is great for exploring the northern slopes of Etna. Castiglione and Randazzo are nice but we would give Bronte a miss. One of the highlights of our visit was a short trip on the Circumetnea railway down to Riposto and back. We might try the full round trip in the future but it takes over 5 hours. One of the most highly recommended restaurants, Terra Mia, is just up the road but we would not recommend walking it at night. The food was excellent. There were hardly any negative points. Occasionally one of the nearby agriturismi had a karaoke session but it did not last long. Someone had found the directions difficult to follow. We thought they were excellent with one minor correction - the "crossroads" near the property is actually a T junction. In short, we had a great time and would certainly consider staying there again.

Fans would be a good addition because the air con wasn't very effective but this didn't spoil the holiday. Lovely peaceful setting with great view of Etna but a car required for easy access. Plenty of good local restaurants and supermarkets. Driving very easy because the roads were almost deserted. The manager and his wife were excellent and couldn't have been more helpful. Etna excursion, Alcantara gorge, Taormina and Savoca well worth doing. Great for a quiet, relaxing holiday. Would definitely return. Villa would also benefit from a microwave, kettle and toaster but otherwise well enough equipped for me, my wife and daughter.
