Lovely clean, modern and spacious apartment close to the sea. Sonia is very friendly and welcoming. We stayed there during the early part of the season so quite quiet, but the annual Fish Festival took place whilst we were there which livened things up, although the fireworks were cancelled due to high winds. Pleasant walks along the coast. Restaurants and bars within easy reach. As there is a railway station in the town we took an inexpensive trip to Florence, which was well worth it. Pisa is, of course, a must and didn't disappoint. The food and drink was fairly priced despite given the locations, we were not ripped off. A short drive to the sandy beach at Vada. Recommend the area for a more relaxed, quieter holiday. Definitely recommend the apartment.

We've had a fantastic stay at La Lantana. The owners, Mario and Mariella, were extremely welcoming, accommodating and just very nice people. They knew we were coming with a baby, so especially bought every imaginable bit of baby bedding - it was all still in its packaging! They also provided us with a little guide to the property, Castiglioncello and the surrounding area, with recommendations of restaurants, activities etc. The owners spent a long time with us on the day we moved in making sure we knew exactly where everything was around the property, how everything works etc. When I asked if there was a bit of cooking oil in the kitchen, Mariella produced a big bottle of extra virgin olive oil from her own shopping. I didn't want to take it, but she insisted that I do. Thank you, Mariella, it was very tasty. The property itself is just beautiful. I told Mario the photos they have up on this website don't do it justice. I wish I could attach the photos that we made of it to show off to our friends! Everything is so new and clean and the whole place has a very tasteful nautical theme throughout. Really high level of finish, we were very pleasantly surprised. The kitchen is extremely well equipped. I don't have half the gadgets and implements at my own flat! The knives are sharp, the crockery is plentiful and pretty, wineware is of good quality (I've never come across that at holiday rentals), there's a dish washer that came supplied with the washing liquid; there is a brand spanking new barbecue, which we used twice and which worked great; a washing machine with all the detergents supplied etc. In terms of space, we really weren't short of it. We were four adults and a baby and we had a twin room unoccupied. There are three bathrooms at the property, so again, one went unused. There is also a very useful study downstairs, in case you need to do a bit of work (hopefully not!). And a large TV with a clever function that allows you to have some programmes in English. Lovely bit of space outside: we had our barbecues under the pines. There is even a large rosemary bush that we were welcome to take a few sprigs off for cooking. If I had to think of any negatives, I could only come up with two very minor things: scary stairs (but only if you have a baby!) and blankets instead of duvets, so the blanket is separate from the sheet underneath, but I think that's a general European thing - we had it at all the other place we stayed at in Italy.
