The apartment and the town are just incredible. You'll never want to leave.

5 of 5
Where to begin? Pierfrancesco and Simona are the perfect hosts - so welcoming and gracious and kind-hearted. I've gotten to know them over my long stay in the apartment and consider them wonderful new friends. The apartment itself is truly magical. It's built right into the rock of the Little Dolomites and it's wonderfully cool, open, spacious, and airy. You feel like you're in another world -- but with all the conveniences of modernity. The kitchen is great for cooking on your own if you want to do that. It has everything you could need. And the bed and other furniture are very comfortable and cozy. The apartment is right in the center of Castelmezzano, a town that is almost impossible to describe. It's the most beautiful place I've ever been -- with its narrow, winding stone alleys (which the Italians call "vicoli") and with its majestic rocks jutting up out of the earth, and with its incredible views out over the hills. It's also probably the friendliest town I've ever visited. Be sure to meet Luciano and Mariella at the bar down the road, get lunch at Peperusko with its incredible views, and for dinner don't miss Trattoria al Vecchio Scarpone -- incredible antipasta. Beautiful food from the nicest people in the world. Just ask Pierfrancesco. He knows all the best places. Last, but certainly not least, take a chance to trek the via ferrata with Pierfrancesco if you can; climbing those high rocks and looking out over beautiful Lucania will take your breath away.

Late Summer Vacation in Potenza

5 of 5
Though the weather conditions were not summerly, we enjoyed our stay in Potenza due to warm welcome and beautifully decorated and comfortable apartment. We had everything we needed to feel ourselves like at home. We could cook everything we wanted in a good equipped kitchen. From the very beginning we got usefull information about sightseeing possibilities in Basilicata. This region of Italy is underestimated, offers many hiking opportunities. And those who need a nature experience without tourist masses can all have it here. After all we had a feeling that we visited the original part of Italy.
