  • Wonderful hosts and real value for money accommodation

Casa Il Gelso, is named after the magnificent Mulberry tree that shades the terrace next to the house. For 6 weeks this was our home while waiting for our house purchase to complete. Spacious enough for our two dogs and us, the accommodation is on the first floor level and is comfortable and very clean. It is in an elevated position and has large doors leading onto balconies with views of the surrounding farm land. The garden is totally fenced and there are good walks along white roads in several directions and shops also within walking distance. The accommodation is well equipped with a good sized fridge and washing machine, essential for an extended stay. The air conditioning unit also gave a pleasant relief from the extraordinary hot weather experienced this year. The owners live locally and are very attentive, providing information and assistance where needed. They generously provided us with home-grown vegetable and treated us to a lovely evening in their cantina where we sampled their own wines and local foods. Casa Il Gelso is close to Senigallia and handy for the beach and is only about 20 minutes from Ancona airport. A good location to stay for striking out to the lovely hill top towns and villages around the area where there is plenty going on throughout the summer. Also we were fortunate enough to be around for the wine tasting event at Morro d’Alba and had a fantastic evening tasting wines and learning about the Lacrima grape variety. With places in short supply that will take dogs this is a very good find.

"The apartment was clean, well-equipped, spacious, and matched the description. The owner was eager to answer any queries. There was a good supermarket about 10 minutes on foot (on Viale Dei Gerani), with a bread shop and newspaper seller situated just across the road from the apartment. We visited several local restaurants which we enjoyed: in the old town (especially Trattoria Rimante on via Pisacane, and also Osteria Palazzo Barberini on via Mastai), on the sea front (La Tartana on Lungomare Marconi, near to the port/railway station), and in the nearby countryside, about 20 minutes walk away (L''Arca di Noe Country House on via del Cavallo). Some of the local Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno wine was very good value in the restaurants. We did not hire a car, but used rail transport to visit Pesaro, Rimini and Urbino (via bus from Pesaro). We hired bicycles from a bicycle shop located just outside the old town, on Via Mercantini, and we thought that the cyclepath network around Senigallia was good. A very enjoyable holiday."
