Wonderful home in wonderful part of Sicily

5 of 5
We had a fantastic time staying in Caccamo. Our plane was delayed and we arrived late, so it was fantastic to arrive to find a feast of lovely cheese, meats, bread and wine. We also appreciated the tour of Caccamo the next morning and to be shown the best butcher and bread shop and restaurants. Caccamo is a small town; very Italian and very friendly. Palermo was great; we took the train from Termini as recommended by Anne and Doug which worked well. Dolce and Gabbana were staging their autumn show which added to the day. Another day we went to Segesta to see the temple and amphitheatre as we were taking one of our sons to the airport. Relaxing at the house was easy as it is very well equipped and really comfortable. The pool is lovely and you can choose sun or shade. We had not visited Sicily before and will definitely go again. Anne and Doug's lovely home is definitely a wonderful place to stay .

For lovers of the sea, sun - and Limoncello

5 of 5
For its location alone, this gorgeous villa deserves 5 stars: its terrace gives an inspiring, near 180-degree vista of the ocean and an hypnotic backdrop to your stay. The villa forms one of a line of properties which perch on the hillside, yet still retains an air of privacy and being self-contained. We spent a hot week here (in the later days, it rose to 35-40C), and loved it. Beaches aren’t in great supply in this area, but you do have the luxury of your own ‘private’ piece of sea just below the terrace. There are some steep steps and rocks to negotiate – so kids need supervision - but don’t be put off. You’re rewarded with beautifully clear water and the complete absence of anyone else around. The best beach we did visit was at Cefalu (a good hour away) which is a lovely old town with a long sandy strip and excellent water. Another is the very busy Mondello beach, just north of Palermo. On the day we were there the water was very bitty with seaweed, although clean. We also visited Corleone and the anti-Mafia museum (excellent, and lovely countryside en-route) and our son and his wife made the 6-7 hr round trip to Mount Etna. There is a pizzeria just 100 metres up the hill with a splendid terrace overlooking the sea. We also had a very good dinner – and copious complimentary Limoncello from the wonderful waiters - at Donna Luisa Osteria in Porticello, 10 minutes away. We also ate well at Can Caus (5 minutes) and with yet more Limoncello on the house. The nearby seaside town of Aspra was also great for a drink before dinner. The villa itself gave us everything we needed. The kitchen and bathroom are simple, but everything worked and the house has the air of a home, not just another rental property. The owner is charming, helpful and goes to great lengths to ensure that you’re equipped with excellent information. Grazie Antonio! Without exception, we met warm and welcoming people, patient with our feeble Italian, and it was a pleasure to explore a little of Sicily for the first time. (You will also return home believing you are the best, most law-abiding driver in the world…).
