It was comfortable and well equipped. The location was quiet, from the back room we saw buffalo grazing (mozzarella makers) and always Vesuvio
The family next door and Giovanni were a pleasure to meet .
This was a great way to become Italian. We appeared to be the only tourists in this part of town, which was a bit of a shock at first, but in the end made for a great place to stay. The area round the apartment was quite rough and the entrance was a bit rustic to say the least, but the apartment itself was great and quickly became home, spacious, secure and comfortable.. We bought fresh fish from the local fishmonger fruit and veg from the local veg shop and the main groceries from a little supermarket, all very nearby, Oh and a late night spitroast chicken and chips street vendor from around the corner is a must . The Apartment was served by two close by Metro Lines and if you hire a car, there is easy access to the motorway system. Frome here the toll to Amalfi was 3.10 euros. and the same for Sorrento. There is a great train service to Pompeii and Herculaneum. There is a bit of a warning. If you are used to Rome then Naples is not Rome. Naples is a much noisier city, much more messy, and has a totally chaotic road system that actually seems to work but we have no idea how. The main principle is that you are not allowed to run anyone over but everything else is ok. The trains plough through the living areas, dustbin carts are emptying noisy bins late at night and every building seems to have its own church bells and there is Graffiti every where Oh and don't forget the car horns seem compulsory. On the plus side the Landlord, Giuseppe and his family were fabulous and very good communicators. They gave us loads of help as to how to find things in the area and help with settling in. Also whilst Naples has obviously seen better days, everyone we met were very friendly indeed and very helpful. Not knowing Italian was not an issue at all. We did find some dark alley ways and streets we wouldn't normally walk down , but didn't once feel threatened. So if you aren't a 5 star kind of person and you want to try the authentic Italian lifestyle this would be a great place to start.
